Depends on the game. XIII, for example, put buffs on Synergist and enfeebles on Saboteur. While, granted, you just swapped between roles anyway, characters didn't have the same exact upgrade paths, so there was always a little compromise. Though that's the core issue for generalist jobs in MMOs anyway. You don't tend to have the need to compromise as much - instead, find the specialist that fits your particular activity. The subjob system only accentuates that in XI.
RDM has a "specialty". Just one that's not been developed on, despite SE having a perfectly good model to copy.
YES, turtle! GoH should be fun to learn. XD
The interface modification looks like they're trying to break away from the 'rows & column' approach that looked fine at 640x480, but not anything higher where the elements started getting stretched/being-too-small for the higher resolution.
Disappointed at the lack of HUD scaling so far. Shit is too small at 1920x1080 on my current display, so I'm stuck playing at 1280x720, which leaves the game visuals not as sharp looking. ;/
The onscreen HP/MP/TP makes me wonder if the spell-casting bar will appear under, and address that one 'complaint' someone was loud about on the official forum regarding macro bar being covered up partially by the casting progress display.
NA translation of the post with the screenshot of the "New" UIWe’ve implemented the new macro palette onto the dev. server!
You can now enter up to 8 characters into the macro title box. We were unable to increase the max number of characters you can input in the macro editing menu. However, the title you input will be fully displayed now. If you are using a 1024x resolution or higher with the Windows version or using the HD mode for Xbox 360, these changes to the macro palette will be automatically switch over. If you are using a lower resolution, SD mode, or a PlayStation 2, the size of the macro palette will remain the original size. We weren’t able to launch this onto the Test Server this week, but we will be implementing it sometime next week. I hope you’re all looking forward to it!
Oh…did you notice the chat widget?
The developers have secretly been working on a new chat widget for Windows and Xbox 360 that will allow you to adjust the number of lines and width of the box. This will also be implemented onto the test server next week, so please try it out!
Shame the right-click camera is horrible and that left-mouse targetting is still as inaccurate as beta-XIV.
I love how dev time was wasted on a Toad no one asked for over implementing the Scorpion/Ruszor people asked for.
It cuts even deeper knowing the Toad will be crap off the bat since it's a "mascot" type pet.
Hey, if you get a little ninja to ride around on your toad, I think it'll be worth it.
If Apkallu is half as tough as my trial of killing 450 Apkallu for lvl 80 oa2-3 hit h2h (before SE changed it to Imps) it'll all be worth it~!!... even better then Adamantoise or any other mob in the game^^

Not that I do racing, but there is a good reason to have a waiting period lower than 24 hours, if the developer's intent is to have the option available once per day and they don't want to use a real-life time of day to reset it. If you have a 24 hour waiting period for some event, unless you can somehow start or finish the event at exactly 24 hours from the previous day, the time you can do it gradually gets later and later in the real life day until you either have to skip a day to reset it or do the event hours later than you started. For example, if you do something at 9:00 PM one day, 9:20 PM the next day, 9:40 PM the next day, etc.
There was a similar problem with some specific crafting timers in WoW that Blizzard solved in a similar manner, in that they reduced the cooldown to 23 hours instead of 24. Seems like a frivolous change, but it allows people to do something at approximately the same time each day (such as when they get off work) instead of progressively later (like when they want to sleep).
They're just rearranging deckchairs on the Titanic now.
I don't really see what the deal people are making on the racing is really. I don't imagine it took much development time or effort to reduce a timer by four hours.
I couldn't locate this 'new UI' pic that people were talking about on the last page, was it only posted on the official JP board?
Whatever the case, it was reposted on the english side of the forums when one of the reps translated the post: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/th...224#post227224
