    [dev1061] Grounds of Valor Adjustments

    * The following areas will be added:

Lower Delkfutt's Tower / Middle Delkfutt's Tower / Upper Delkfutt's Tower / Temple of Uggalepih / Den of Rancor / Sea Serpent Grotto / Quicksand Caves
*Treasure caskets will also appear in these areas.
Had to reboot my PC and this one popped up on Alla's (yes I know but I'm avoiding work) front page.

To a point, consider that you gave reasons they wouldn't want to throw in some events where charm was viable yet in the paragraph that followed.

With the cap going to 99, and presumably jug pets being able to get up past 90 (at least), if not push 99 themselves, how attractive would say, level 80-85 natural pets wind up being in the long run? They'd maybe have been used for a few months, before getting largely ignored in favor of jugs from then on.

Were SE going to put things in where Charm was being used for anything but crowd control, they'd need to do it where the mobs would make good pets for 99...so it'd still be down the road.

OK, so recent content doesn't have charmable mobs, so they are focusing on jug pets. Are they not aware that they are the ones making the content, and therefor could actually put charmable mobs in it and not make charmed pets deapawn with confrontation status?

I could be wrong since I am not a Beastmaster and haven't known any professional ones for years, but I was under the impression that jug pets were weaker than regular mobs of the same level. Has this changed with the newer pets, or are they full of shit about "strong attacks and durability"?
Jug pets have changed with the level cap increase. the newer jugpets from jugs lvl 76+ are substantionally more powerfull then the jugpets from lvl 1-75. This is the case right now, they even outperform even match pets in most cases (and the fact there are almost no even match pets to charm for in relevant areas ¬.¬). On the other hand I dont understand why mobs in Abyssea couldnt be charmed, they con EP to Even match or tough+. The first thing i did in abyssea after release was mischarming a mob that in the normal vana world was totally normal to charm... (yes I noticed later you cant charm any mob in Abyssea).

And confrontation status is bogus haveing your pet dimissed upon confrontation status is absolut bullshit btw. Still dont understand why that concept was done to pet jobs ¬.¬. Pop a dynamis NM ----> puff your pet is gone and you have to call a new one. Most likely they that to prevent BSTs from lowmaning some of the new Dynamis NMs.

EDIT: BST is one of the most safest jobs to play nowaday, the chance to die solo with those new jugs and pet food is low. if you are 2 people its basicly around 0 (if you arent engaging some NM that is on crack). I would go so far and say that a full PT of BSTs could destroy any HNM/NM if there wouldnt be any time limit to the fight.

it would make it possible for them to do everything.
You mean like fill up your inventory with reward food and solo Tiamat/Jorm/new lvl cap quest/godknowswhatelse?

I can understand old day BST players, the Job is nowhere near as fun as back then. I remember all the deaths and wipes and successfull fights I had as BST. Granted I wasnt a hardcore BST (it was for me just the fun job to do), BST nowadays is really just a good DD that can solo with ease most of the easier stuff quiet fine and safe. Its kind of boring. However I am glad they went into this direction, seeing where endgame has gone and what new things have come out, there wouldnt have been any place for Oldday BST if it werent for the changes.

To be fair, there's still no place for neo-BST. Well, no place in the traditional sense. It has purpose in the same way that PUP does. We need occasionally need them to stagger something via specialized JA.

Translation: We're going to fuck up the mob locations so the next time you go down here you will aggro random shit and die! :D

    On each response:
    1. I think the issue of depopping pets is just an error that SE cannot (Or does not feel is worth the time) fixing. From a time spent perspective, this would mean resolving the error (I assume this will take them a while) and then adding random mobs to BCNM type zones. Consequently, the faster solution is to place a variety of pets within BST's arsenal. While this might upset players hoping to charm mobs, the intuition is that you can satisfy any particular craving for a mob by allowing for a jug for every type of mob wanted and their main focus is on "placing" BST within content. This also relieves them of having to limit the type of mobs they make because they no longer have to worry about BST charming said mobs and burning down the place. One response is to make those mobs uncharmable, but if that is the case, then you're probably going to face the same situation anyways.

    2. I'm guessing that this question was asking for the ability to change mobs on the spot (Like if you have a Hippo at 50%, instantly change to Turtle at 100%). I'm guess that is what they mean by "reduced" call beast duration. I'm not sure what the current limitations on changing pets are, but it seems as if SE is preventing you from rotating mobs through a single jug when they answer the question in this manner. Consequently, with a single jug, you could do everything essentially. However, their response fails to coordinate with previous responses that demanded that you use particular pets for specific functions unless they honestly wish for you to pick a pet for the duration of the fight for one particular debuff.

Jug pets used to be shit but they're actually pretty good now. Bitching about too many jug pets is ironic considering that a few years ago the largest BST complaint was a lack of strong jug pets.

i think its not that there are too many jugpets, i believe that there is no other options THEN jugpets. Thats what the bitching is about.

Which is a legitimate complaint because it obsoletes 1/2 of the job.

But SE doesn't know how to play their own game.

It's pretty sad, the Charm JA that BST was founded on pretty much never used anymore. It was kind of fun actually having to charm mobs, and anyone who had bst leveled before abyssea pretty much has useless charm gear now taking up space.

I had a Full Charm Duration/CHR Build specific for it... I sold it all around level 85 when i realized it became worthless.

I kind of see it as a form of progression. Whilst I do belong to the generation of charm bsts that soloed their way up, I don't see more jugs as ever a bad thing. I was probably one of the biggest proponents of jug pets and pet tanking before the level cap raise.

I suppose you could take this as being similar to how Jump pretty much outgrows its usefulness when Spirit Jump was introduced. But it's not like you can't still use charm in the old world. You'll just find a much more limited use for it. This is of course partly due to the battlefield/instance nature of most of the new content, and in some ways a side effect of "we don't want more world spawns".

Then again, charm was already useless on 75 hnms by virtue of mob distribution and no charmables. Ultimately, the likelihood of the matter would be that even if they introduced new charmables or allowed them in battlefields, they would either be useless or obsoleted by jugs against anything other than maybe themselves or weaker shit.

In other words, wanting charm now when jugs are this powerful is just wanting a cheaper tool to kill
    EP/TW mobs.. Unnecessary.

That's kind of like saying that not magic bursting obsoletes half of the job of BLM.

Viable camps/activities with charmable mobs were few and far between since, well, forever. Sure, the handful there were made for a unique play experience, but that can still exist anyway. Better jugpets is/was simply the more comprehensive solution to the basic problem: that BSTs needed stronger pets. Either revise/make future concessions around every possible zone/activity for one job (that could wind up being annoying for others - things to avoid AoE'ing/aggroing, etc) -or- just let BST carry better pets with them.

The end result is still largely the same, just like a BLM is still doing magic damage, bursting or not.

Not saying there isn't a whole style of play that's kinda fallen by the wayside...but honestly, there's a lot of that in XI. At least they're trying to update BST and keep it relevant in some way, unlike, say, RDM.

I'm happy with my Jug pets, really, Just wish they'd do something about Call beast... Being on a ~3 minute timer would do wonders.

I agree on that. A 3 minute Call Beast would help the job so much more where it needs it.
Stacked with (adjusted) CB merits, it might make BST more or less unkillable with the ability to throw up another pet do quickly. But this can be balanced by the fact that jugs incur economic cost to the BST.

Honestly SE has always been pretty bad with adjusting pet recast timers. They managed to get PUP right, but Dragoon is still screwed on the timer (it should be like 5 minutes). Thankfully the jobs main function doesn't depend on it much

Elemental Wyvern Breath procs in Voidwatch? You're damn straight it relies on it much!
