Julian I'm going to borrow this and post it later on the official because it perfectly sums up how people feel about these WS 'improvements'.
It's clear SE doesn't play the game when they mention Spirits Within and Atonement. I fucking laughed so hard at those examples being put forth. Cmon, they can't pay one person to play the fucking game and report back the current trends? Then again, I'm assuming the devs give a fuck.
Next, we'll see Chi Blast or all DD /THF as a viable strategy straight from the lips of the SE devs. MND sets gaiz, MND sets.
Don't forget mentioning the cutting edge sleep potion and opo-opo necklace strategy for all of the mobs that inspire so much fear among the populace.
Trying to explain how this game is played to this Development Team is like trying to explain how the internet works to old people. They are just going to complain about bare midriffs, tell you about the time they saw President Grover Cleveland, offer you some hard candy, and fall asleep before anything constructive can happen.
Without just comparing these new WS to Emp WS, are we also including the fact we'll have ODD up after we use it to just say using the Emp WS is best in practically all situations anyway?
Didn't see it in here, so here...

Why do I have a feeling that they are going to put "Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate" on the title screen after this update?
I'm reading through the google translations of the Japanese reactions to the weaponskill nerfs, and they sound pissed as shit too. I get the feeling that they mostly don't care about anyone's opinion and only work towards their own grand plan, no matter how stupid and bizarre it might be.
Did they basically just say "People have said that shijin spiral sucks. We have looked at their tests, and we have decided that they were bad, so we're not changing anything. Please gear accordingly by stacking on chr to make the ws become stronger than asuran fists, and to close the gap between it and victory smite!"
(Except that, the mod is dex, which is still pretty crappy considering it's not even a crit ws. It just sounded better when you say something retarded like chr)
The way I saw these WS's at first, was that they were probably on par/maybe a little weaker/stronger than non-relic/empy choices at 1 merit, and just a plain stronger choice than non-empy/relic ws's. (Even if the WS's became slightly stronger, it doesn't matter since the new ws lacks any kind of aftermath bonus)
Which basically meant, cap out 3 WS's for jobs that have shitty relic/empy, or a relic/empy that you don't want to make. For example, club and axe looked really good for me. But now they're not going to be any better than rampage/hexa? Yeah, looks like a waste of 100 merits.
This whole "We want the sword ws to be good for nonplds" and "We want the club ws to be good for nonwhms ^____^" thing is bullshit.
Well... I suppose it's nice to know that the JPs are also pissed as hell about getting all the WSs nerfed. That being said, why bother wasting 100 fucking merit points when you can just use a WS that you get from levelling... Wish they'd answer that.
Good thing they spent all the time making cool looking weaponskills that suck dick. God why even fucking waste time doing stupid bullshit like this.
I think I know what's going on.
Since these weaponskills are usable by many jobs, they were probably afraid of certain weaponskills being too powerful on jobs that can get natural boosts from traits. So they nerfed the damage to make the weaponskills on par with older "stronger" skills. What SE should've done was:
1) Keep the weaponskills the way they are but make them naturally learnable
2) Make the weaponskills job specific like mythics and make them powerful right behind the Emps/relics/whatever
3) Group the weaponskills similar to Emps (h2h = MNK/PUP Axe=BST/WAR, etc) and make them strong
4) If they can't follow 1-3 don't even bother making new WS's
Grand Plan, if I had to guess, new synergy recipes to modify weapon/armor to boost the new ws's.
I can read you like a book SE!
edit: and yes I don't like books.
edit: I just noticed the FFXIAH button/search at the top. Thank you to whoever integrated that.
I'd like to say - Very disappointed at all the WS Nerfs... But oh well... I'll echo the "Why bother making them if they're going to be absolute garbage".
I mean, i Could understand nerfing a few of them if they were Standard "Gained through leveling" Weaponskills... but who's going to toss 100 Merits in something designed from the beginning to be sub-par?
I'm beginning to wonder if it's somehow possible to go beyond the dev team to get SE's attention that the people they have on XI right now are fucking morons.
Have the game become the biggest flop of its time?
I'm afraid we're past that point, and I can see trying to arrange some kind of mass exodus just resulting in SE washing their hands of XI. Not exactly win-win.
So..... Wait. 100 Merits to cap a WS out, and it still doesn't beat one we learned 200 skill levels before? Are they afraid to let Rampage go? We're now on to side-grading new content. Yup par for the course for Tanaka. It's obvious the new/old hivemind behind the game had no idea the level cap was raised with hopes of, oh I don't know, improving our characters beyond level 75 content.
Yah, Pretty much. I'm still scratching my head at them thinking level 60 Weaponskills should be the standard for 99 Endgame Merited Weaponskills
So axe ws dmg will be the same as a no crit rampage if you get 2-3 crits? We are making it so that the amount of damage will be around the same as Rampage if you have full accuracy and get 2-3 criticals. (This is when both of them are executed at 100 TP. There is of course more damage that can be dealt depending on gear and food.)
Spend 100 merits, keep using lv55 WS...
