Would be the preferable solution, so long as the damage remains somewhat within reasonable bounds. What fun is there if every DD there is can do bajillions of damage with every weaponskill? :c

the only reasonable solution is to make every weaponskill in the game over powered and make everything die so fast that parses dont matter duhhhh
Reduce every job's delay to 0 regardless of weapon so that all they have to do is engage for infinite melee strikes to kill a monster.
or the first person to type "die'" wins
I dont agree with that, the least defensiv jobs (from the melee department) are RNG, DRG, COR, DNC and THF. War as said can actually take quiet some hard hits without dieing and Retallation is a very good Ability to support your Attack while staying Defensiv. MNK is up there too somwhere, but Counterstance can lead to some very unpleasant results when being hit by a Mob Ability (tough their HP compensates for some of those drawbacks).
Actually SE has done that just the other way around. Most Empys were a slap in the face of Relic owners that had worked hard and long for their weapon, just to be replaced by a weapon that can be done in 2 weeks. Can you justify that? It would be ok if empys had such a tremendous task like mythics have to be completed, but you can do them in 2 weeks. Now dont give me the "Relics are easy to make nowadays"-card, they werent that easy to make before 4 years.
The people here who do VW (seemingly) with their LS, who all have god tier gear, who all operate as a well oiled machine, dont really ever have to deal with "how many ukon's do we have", because they know what their group can do...
Just because you drive a Ferrari, doesnt mean thats the standard of the road. Because your car can fly at 200km/h doesnt mean every other car can. There are a lot of shout groups that base whos on a DD by "whos got an Ukon"...SE notices these things, and tries to remedy it, for BALANCE! As a couple others have said, I do agree with it. I do think SE's going to overdo it and fuck something up bad, nerfing 3 things at once, with their track record, but war's going from god tier to godly tier.
One of the main issues of the game other than a dev team thats out of touch with its players. Some jobs just got added just for the sake of adding them to sell expansion copies and in the end did much more damage to the games balance.
This is why this game has always been about just bringing a few popular jobs and saying fuck you to the rest because certain jobs did things better than the rest.
TBH I never saw many Polearm Sams in general except in merits. Aside from the debate whether War was really OP or not. I agree that the Ukko nerf isn't going to a huge deal in terms of making War useless or making content impossible. War was and will remain a top tier DD. I just don't like nerfs in general. Like people have said nerfing War was the easiest thing to do rather than putting the effort into the game.
That's my problem with it. FFXI development is either lazy or strapped for development time. Rather than expanding content to allow higher damage levels they will try to bring everything to parity and provide miniscule buffs so the content released in the prior recent updates does not become obsolete. The other obvious thing is with tiny buffs it's easier to balance, Tanaka seems obsessed with balance. If the team's priority is balance the less they change the easier their job is.
In all honesty at this point I'm kind of scratching my head wondering why I'm even discussing it. I guess the only thing is I have played this game for so long and had so much invested in it I hate to see them continually make cheap and lazy design choices. I'd probably come back if SE gave me a reason. Rehashed content was a bad idea from day one (that one we can some what blame on the players) and VW is nothing except battle no story, no exploration, and a return to old terrible drop rates. The level increase ended up not introducing anything new for my favorite job (coming out with a nerf actually) and barely anything for the other jobs it doesn't impress.
Jesus fucking christ, would all of you allatards please return to alla/official forums/ffxiah/wherever the fuck you came from?
Nerfs are stupid, period. Adjusting something right after it comes out isn't a nerf, adjusting something a year after it's been in the game is a nerf, and should never be looked kindly upon, fucking period.
And to all the people crying that ukon war shits on everything else, who fucking cares? Is this game still a merit party parser pissing contest? Not really. There is no content in this game right now that requires you to "throw some ukons on that shit". Does it make the content easier? Sure, but so does every other strong weapon, weaponskill, and job in the game. Unless you're in a group of idiots, or joining pickup parties for god knows what reason, there is no content in this game that can't be cleared in a decent/fast amount of time in a group of well geared and smart people. And no, that doesn't require making everyone bust out their ukons to do so, as some of you seem to believe.
tl;dr, suck less
I applauded the DRK Kclub nerf because, although being a DRK, zerging things to death effortlessly was detrimental to overall game balance. I lost a niche that day, but I haven't once complained about it.
Actually, adjusting something right after it comes out is a nerf. A nerf is anything where something is reduced in power. Just because something remains untouched for ages does not mean it doesn't warrant adjustment. You play Starcraft2: do you think every balance patch should never be looked kindly upon, fucking period? It is after all adjusting things ages after the game comes out! Fix it immediately or leave it broken forever, right?Nerfs are stupid, period. Adjusting something right after it comes out isn't a nerf, adjusting something a year after it's been in the game is a nerf, and should never be looked kindly upon, fucking period.
Who cares? You doom your game to being unbalanced and "theme park"ish the moment you throw parity out of the window. It would be far better for the game as a whole if the DD jobs were somewhat aligned in damage, such that the top was ~5% better than the rest in general situations. There is no mandate that Warrior should dominate everyone ever and be absolutely fine, just a trend - and trends can be changed.
I think a large reason that people are reacting so negatively to this is that they are simply not used to being adjusted in the negative direction. In other games, you get used to being adjusted in both ways and they are much better games from a balance perspective because of this. In FFXI they have been largely lazy about balance thus far, just casually allowing WAR among other jobs to dominate DD for ages... and then when they try to make it a better game, people are so set in their ways that they meet fierce opposition.
Sometimes, just like obsolescence of kings and their gear, it is better to take a "necessary evil" for the improvement of the game as a whole; some people will not like it, and that is fine. A lot of the people who do not like it are those who are not sympathetic to people wanting to be able to DD with jobs that are notWAR, notSAM, notMNK etc. Just like those who wished king camping to define who got the best gear, it is a small amount of people damaging a large amount of people.
At any rate, there are tons of ways to get a higher crit rate on things. Besides, we don't even know what the level 99 versions of relics and empyerans and mythics are going to be like. Hell they might have some crazy damage boosts or something that we don't even know about.
So if you make a mistake you should never rectify it? Good to know. As I say I have no idea how those numbers even made it out of whatever monkey that drooled out the stats on Empyreans' head in the first place, but at least SE realised they fucked up and now they're fixing it.
People seem to forget, that SE has given us free reign to change into w/e job we want, whenever we want it. The fact that people are changing into WAR, even way before Ukko, is an indicator that WAR is the "weapon of choice". As a Master of Arms, Warrior, excels at dealing damage above everyone else. It's raw power so to speak. These "adjustments" SE is trying to push onto these jobs should not based on the fact that 1 job does more damage than the other, but rather on what that job is capable of doing individually. I like my Ukko WAR, and by Jaga I will rip out the throat of anyone who fucks with my damage (just kidding), but because I do more damage than another DD, a SAM, the social mechanics of this game, do not prevent other people with other jobs from participating in the "end-game" content.
People have lost their priorities. Instead of focusing on how much bigger their dicks are, you should be screaming at SE for lack of original content. Enough of this rehashed-recolored bullshit, reused armor graphics (Ace's Mail, seriously?). Give us an expansion that's worth us spending time getting through. Enough of hours upon hours getting through the halls of Hu'xzoi to find an NM. Enough of years long wait for next installment of Wings. Enough of content that until people complain is a giant time sink without reward that makes you never want to go back to Alzadaal Ruins.
I don't want a content that is used as pacifier to keep me complacent with areas I've already explored. I don't give a shit about parallel universes, abyssmal time sinks and monsters that seem to come out of woodworks when SE can't think of a better way to implement new ideas (or lack there of). Enough catering to the minority who still refuse to upgrade their hardware to run this game at optimal performance while everyone else has moved on. Stop giving excuses and start making changes.
Its all a secret plan by SE to make Stardiver/Drg more useful. Drg+War=BFF's
Edit:LolBBF's
War is still top dog. Where my true warriors at?!
Honestly I think the fact of the matter is, Abyssea really fucked up this game in a lot of ways. It was fun and awesome, but there is a ton of content that is totally useless because of it. For example, I'm running a mule through CoP, and fights that took me 10+ tries in the past to even survive I don't even have to cast cure 1 on now. This War nerf is annoying in that it's a simplistic first step to bringing the balance back, but even you obsessives have to admit that this game is pretty much fucked in terms of overall conceptual uniformity.
