Wouldn't be surprised if the step 1 trials are just simplified versions of step 2.

    5 ADLs
    3 PWs
    100 Riftdross/cinder

Only SE could be so moronic to not cap the 99 weapons with a glow just for finishing. You know, making your players feel good for a job well done.

Nope, you have to jump through insanity hoops in order to do what any Korean grinder lets you do 5mins into the game.

If you want to be super-optimistic you could take the step 2 requirements to be an indication that they seem to be planning to keep the servers open for at least four or five more years...

    Precisely.

And this, my friend, is exactly why I haven't played since August and am perfectly comfortable resisting the urge to reactivate. The game's gone to shit, to put it mildly.

Don't know if it's so much gone to shit as it is it's having an identity crisis. Which is healthy, honestly. I'm confident the dynamic nature of the MMO genre will ensure FFXI will emerge with some sort of equilibrium. It might just take another year is all.

The real question is if anybody will still be around by then, but the answer will be determined by content, and Magian trials are not content.

I do have to agree with you. Sometimes it seems like there are two different warring development teams on the game. One group does stuff like Relic Armor +2 which is for the most part pretty awesome. The other group does stuff like Voidwatch which is a nightmare of low-drop rates and never listening to the players.

Note the fact that on the start of work on the FF14 updating project FFXI took a lot of positive turns, then when the group who fucked up ff14 and a new group was put in charge of ff14, suddenly 14 started getting fixed and ffxi started going back to shit...?

Beyond that. Look at the Dynamis updates, it is a whole different philosophy than Voidwatch. Look at Relic +2, it isn't like pulling teeth to get it and there are some very nice pieces. It's like we have a really mean Dad and a really nice Mom.

And SE continues to take steps backwards in the development of FFXI. Honestly, I don't see the issue with making the game more casual. If you complete your life's goal of obtaining 1 relic/mythic/empy to 99, you can always start making another. There's 20 jobs and 3 sets of legendary weapons. Ya there's the whole "been there, done that" factor after the first. But if you're having fun doing it shouldn't that matter the most? As pointed out already it's a GAME. Not a freaking JOB.

Can be pulling teeth to get the augments done though given you're locked to the job you want to upgrade a piece on, as well as a specific zone.

Ahahahaha, I can just imagine the rage of SE pulling the plug on the servers for the 1 player who was @50 PW items left for his glow effect.

Would be like people with 10 lv90 Emps a year ago. I'd be fine with it, but SE (and some of the playerbase?) didn't like that?

But it is not nearly as nightmarish as getting the -1s so that you could get the +1s that if you were lucky had a marginal improvement over the NQ back in the day. I can't tell you how many babies fell down stairs for pets that caught on fire when it was suggested that we do a CoP Dynamis in olden times.

Really? Seems like when I was in a dyna LS back then, everyone loved doing COP over rotz dynamis. Was only 2 hours compared to 3-4.

If by love you mean not getting remotely the same number of 100/AF drops as a city Dynamis back in the olden times, sure.

I remember them times fondly. I'd still rather that than finding someone who'll let me help farm Xarc/Tav on my RDM for 20k XP for some augmented hat goodness.

By love I mean not having to spend 4 hours in dynamis and getting acc drops.

Obviously you want to do city dynamis for 100s. But when you are forced to spam city dynamis for 100s, you would be very happy when you got to do something else (COP/Outlands)

I would still rather get someone to help (or just two-box) the 20k XP for the augmented hat than the years with an alliance that it took me to get the +1.

And by "not having to spend 4 hours in dynamis and getting acc drops" you mean "spending two hours hoping to get drop and winding up getting 5 or 6 good accessories and one or two good -1s if you were lucky"?

    Not fond memories...

I think Jornna's ls was like mine...you get a point per run and currency stays within the LS (inb4 point systems are garbage) regardless if you spend 2 hours in CoP for 3 1/2 hours in a boring city.

My old dyna ls was the same way, everyone loved COP for that reason.

Pretty much that. You get the same amount of points no matter what zone you did and you really don't care about currency because the LS kepted it for whatever they felt like doing with it (I think upgrading relics usually, im not sure if they ever sold any of it)

Dynamis as a whole continues to be my least favourite endgame activity in any game.

We were good at making cities worthwhile though (extra credit if attendance was below a certain amount and extra credit for finishing early)
