To continue being way off topic, 1.8M copies sold...in Japan only maybe. 13's total was closer to 6 million total. 13-2 will probably sell about 1/3 of that (I think last I heard first week sales in the US/EU were like 500-600k+whatever Japan has sold).

The one figure I have that's concrete in terms of EU sales was that one of my local stores took a spectacular 30 pre-orders... and failed to deliver the pre-order bonus codes to 26 out of them. 30 pre-orders for something you have the super shiny cool retailer specific pre-order bonus for seems incredibly low for me. 13 got a fair bit of TV and poster advertising over here (and into hot water for using PS3 footage to plug the 360 version) - seen one advert for 13-2.

Think people are sceptical of side-main number FFs in general though, know I was when it was announced and the visions of Yuna in hotpants from X-2 immediately drove straight into my mind.

which blows my mind with this game cuz I know SE is making mad profit with it and it gets the least resources while a lot of there other products are not doing so stellar

If you assume 3000 active accounts per server (probably very, very low end number) SE makes ~630,000$ a month from FFXI, or 7.5M/year.

I don't know what it would cost to run servers to host 16 worlds+test server; 8 or so devs and ~3-4? executive salaries (which wouldn't need to come exclusively from FFXI)

If everyone who was upset about the recent direction the game was heading in unsubbed for a month or possible two to send a msg you'd see SE backtrack on all the shit they were trying to push "in the name of balance!" in a matter of days, they would fold like a fucking deck of cards.

I played for 7 years (having never taken a break) and I cancelled two accounts mid Jan. Voidwatch finished me. It's not all bad but when I realised that there was no alternative to Voidwatch, I couldn't face playing. Now honestly I haven't seen anything which excites me enough to resubscribe. I hope they actually announce that they're going to take the servers down after 10 years. What they're doing to this game is depressing, they should let it die.

I've been playing since NA release. I have never really taken many breaks longer than a month or two, but there was one big break around when I started college, where I didn't play somewhere around 3~9months (I don't even remember)

I care about my character, and all the time I invested in it. That's why I'm never going to sell my character or anything like that.

That didn't stop me from not giving SE my money this month.

Also, to me, the notes make it feel like both Legion/new-VW are not hitting, and rather just the adjustments/nerfs. They wouldn't have shown a pic of Ig-Alima otherwise imo.

Ya, that picture of Ig-Alima was supposed to be highlighting job/JA adjustments (COR in the pic using Gallant's Roll), didn't have anything to do with VW. Think it confused a lot of people, though.

Similar situation here... Except I quit around Summer 09 until Spring 10 (Abyssea, 80cap)...

I went from being very enthusiastic about FFXI in early December (was going to start on Heavy Metal Plates, newly level 99, new Nyzul coming, progress in VW) - to downright sickened and discouraged by the game in late December (nerfs, entire LS gone to SWTOR, lolTrials, the rise of balance, etc) - I've basically only played a handful of times through January, and that was to get a Potestas Bomblet - which I got after ~550k limit points on fuckin' Jotunns at ~25 per and GoV pages at 2020 per.

Account lapsed at the end of January, and I haven't really cared to reactivate it just yet.

We took Vampyr/Dvergr/Corse. Two of these use Charmga. The other casts Death Spell under 30%. We got owned hardcore . I will say, it was fun though. The community reps need to host shit like this more often.

My story is pretty much the same. Played since the PS2 release and never stopped playing completely until late December/early January. Too many of my friends gone, too little content that interested me, and too many stupid decisions by the dev team. I'll keep my $60 a month and spend them on more enjoyable things from now on, unless SE makes a radical change in direction and actually provides content that could bring me back.

I reinstalled my laptop a few days ago, and so lost the browser cookie that kept me logged into the official forums even though my accounts were shut off ^^; I doubt SE pays anyone to look at fansites for feedback anymore; hell, they barely listen to feedback on the OF even. I can still read to forums to get an idea for what is going on, but it's kind sad that I can't add my voice to the discussion there anymore...

Been playing since 2002, and i'm just now losing my interest in this game.

Not 100% yet, but if I do, what happens if I come back? Do I have to pay for back logged months to catch up? I remember hearing something like that years ago.
Or if I come back, I just pay for that current month, and im good to go?

You just stop paying. Your character becomes inaccessible and you can't post on the OF. When you decide to play again, just pay up for the current month and you're back both in-game and on the OF. Easy.
