Man... so much crying about Abyssea still. It bleeds into so many FFXI threads.

Everyone seems to claim that everyone is getting all their shit +2ed and emped up. I beg to differ or maybe MidQuetz just sucks ass. There are plenty of people who have not gotten Shinryu access yet let alone kill him. Plenty who still use pink bodys and barely have notched their +1 sets. The game is still full of lazy players or players who even in this more laid back system don't find the time to get as much done as they want in a session. The defining difference with Abyssea is that you get rewarded for effort.

Then of course there is the complaints that people are rewarded too much currently. What do you expect them to do with the game at this point.... its a known fact the level cap will still be going up. I see AF3+2 and emps as being the groundwork for future level 99 content. At 99 cap, if you level a new job, you will be doing NM in Abyssea for any gear you don't have and possibly working on an Emp, unlike some older areas, they can be sure that Aby areas will never be totally dead and useless.

The main gripes that are worth a damn are the imbalance of relic/mythic/emp weapons, in obtainability and power/utility, and the gripe that brews and auto RR have fucked the game up. I think all these things should clearly be looked into and balanced or removed depending.

Long story short, there is some issues with the current game, but just because people who are intelligent and put in effort can farm Rani easily without brew low man and get capped on Rings, for every member of that group there is 10+ players just hoping to find a group to get Rani kill credit for, and they will spend months looking for the shout.

Game has just as many idiots and skilled players as before in my opinion.

Well, that's badass. I'm inclined to wait until the patch hits to do anything else in Abyssea.

Very nice mini update. Now they need to make Khim,Cerb, hydra KIs come from chest.

As for the current topic, take away 200k brews and Abyssea is a much better expansion. That would have also limited Shin access/kills so less people would be abusing Apoc atma. SE really messed up with the brews.

You know, I just thought a little more about this. Could this be SE's answer to cleaving?

AoE, kill half the monsters pop a bunch of chests. AoE again, kill those chests, kill the other half of the monsters. Your cleaving just got half as efficient.

i think by destroy chests they mean it in the NPC check -> select "Destroy Sturdy Pyxis" option..
cruor only applies to the destroyer too

Sounds like it but, a failed attempt that will cause more people to cleave,
Due getting cruor from destorying them, depending on the amount it could create extreamly fast cruor farm!! Making more people wanting 2 do it So they can Brew More NMs,
Also Destorying them could be option in the list, to get rid of unwanted chest that are stopping you from targeting other chests or even ???!,

Edit: Reread: post by Dev: Players will be given the "option" to manually destroy any sturdy pyxis.
*When exercising this option, the "destroying player" will receive a cruor reward proportional to the rank of the pyxis.
    Looks like 2ndphase

    * Sturdy pyxides in Abyssea areas will appear in significantly greater quantities.
Isn't this an increase on the 50 limit?

Trying to parse the dev posts and notes is an exercise in futility, because things are so often lost in translation. But in this case I think the "option to manually destroy" the chests involves clicking through a menu. I think cleaving is safe.

That's a nice option for useless chests (red chests once lights are capped for example).

I hope there is a text command for it, though I doubt there will be.

    Happy either way.

Agreed, but if you do this must drastically increase droprate on Twilight Mail/Helm/Cloak. They are pretty ridiculous as is, let alone without being able to do the fight very often. Maybe god forbid just let you choose a piece of equipment per win.

What I want to see is that SE goes ahead and adds an "Open Chest" option to the menu and that checking what's inside a chest doesn't kick you out.

So you can "Peer Inside the Chest" and on that same screen with the items there's an "Unlock Chest" option.

Would other people agree that this is a good idea?

I disagree, it would have (too late now) made those items rare like they were intended. Drop rate would eb the same you just would have to kill it the correct way without a brew, which is tough yet rewarding and actually requires skill and organization.
Its like Bv2 without zerging. (Done normally was one of the most fun challenges I've done in this game)

That is a pretty awesome idea. It can get annoying to peer the chest then have to hit your key macro after exiting out. An option to expend a key while peering would be pretty sweet.

I think this is just a point we'll end up disagreeing on; I have no problem with items remaining rare as a test of skill, eg beating Shinryu without a brew. However, I don't think items should remain rare due to luck. This is likely a very naive point of view, but reflects how I feel about item acquisition. When I get a drop in a game (any game here, not talking specifically FFXI) that comes from something very challenging, I feel elated. When I get a drop which is the product of something horrendously luck-based, there are two scenarios; either I 1/1 it and admittedly am elated through my good luck, or it just drags on and it's more of a "finally..." sensation when I get it rather than a "hell yeah"! I would rather dispense with the happiness gained from good luck and eliminate the possibility of bad luck than deal with it as described.

I know I'm not being very eloquent but hopefully you get my point. When I got my Ebody after ages and ages, the feeling was more relief than joy.

I'd rather the game just automatically tell me what's in the chest just by clicking it so I can then hit escape and then hit the key macro.
