I suggest that everyone reserve judgment until after the Vana'fest has happened in June. If nothing major is announced and we have nothing major to look forward to, I'd say that it's fairly apparent that Square-Enix has essentially refocused all of their MMO resources to FFXIV and is more or less content with FFXI as it is, willing to slowly lose players in the hopes that FFXIV will be revitalized with 2.0. If something major is announced (or even something not-so-huge but still unique/interesting/exciting), then I'd say there's hope yet for FFXI. Based on their timeline, once Salvage has been updated, they will really have no old content left worth updating, so at that point (end of November in their timeline) it will pretty much be do-or-die in terms of FFXI content updates.

While there's a lot of evidence pointing to the fact that they have put many or all of their eggs in FFXIV's basket, the very fact that they are having a Vana'fest at all (considering there was none last year) leads me to believe that they have something to show or talk about.

Question is, what's the magic number of people doing this to get SE to open their eyes? Telling people to quit isn't a good thing for those opting to tough it out. Russian roulette, really, as the ultimate choice with SE will either be refocus and revitalize or abandon ship. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to guess which people may prefer, and my overall message is to not wait to that point of critical mass.

I haven't subbed since February. Why? Nothing in the game for me these days I want to do that justifies their return to the time sink. I'd like for there to be, but it's not in Voidwatch, Legion, or all this pending regurgitated junk (And I hated Salvage, soooo). I'm not gonna sit here and say new stories or areas will save the day. Ultimately those will be rushed through and picked apart with only the most worthwhile stuff seeing the light of day in the end. I'm far more interested in revamping jobs to better stylize and emphasize their niches. Maybe then I'd be more interested in dabbling events that don't excite me.

We should organize an epic BG ffxi walkout to get them to lower the price. If they cut it down to 8 bucks a month, I could have 3 characters to tri-box instead of 2 dual-boxed for the same price, and actually be able to enter salvage.

This fucking game, I swear. I'd agree that it is our fault that we don't make our voices heard, but when they won't fucking listen to us unless we walk away... it's like a bad job where your boss keeps taking advantage of you, daring you to quit, but he knows you won't do it because the economy is a giant pile of shit. If the proverbial point of critical mass ever actually occurred, what's to bring us back at all?

Is it sad that I'm happy Cait Sith is still on the table? That it is the single ray of joy I have left in this game? A light avatar that isn't Carbuncle that might be able to do decent damage.

Lets do like that stupid facebook gas protest which accomplishes absolutely nothing:
"No one play FFXI on May 5 2011!!! Saturday is inarguably their most busy playtime day, with 5000 subscribers per server over 20 servers, at roughly 50 cents per day, that's 50,000$ missing from their income. Thats a substantial amount of income lost. If we dont play for one day our message will get across!!"

Maybe if we didn't pay 30 days in advance. Asking some to take even a week off, despite disdain for the current situation, can be difficult. I can't entirely blame people for not wanting to "pull support" with the knowledge of how some JP Devs seem to operate (Those who work on the Tales series localizing outside of Japan "if they feel like it" as an example, nevermind possible profit gains). Basically, I just get the vibe SE is more the type to throw their hands up, claim they tried, and pull the plug at this point in XI's life. And I'm not saying this just because they have all their eggs in the XIV basket now.

I think I saved that metal chip.... or maybe I tossed it... D:

This is a good way to tie together old Limbus and new Limbus since metal chips were essentially useless before. Also since ABCs were becoming more and more useless and you can just buy metal chips with those also.

Was there any unused locations in Apollyon/Temenos to begin with? Mainly curious if they had to reissue a new zone dat, or did some other sphagetti work.

Or reuse the same layouts, with different mobs.

If they didn't change anything, then yay for cockblocking people still trying to get through the normal Omega/Ultima routes that share the same spots.

Hrmm. I wonder if the metal chip thing is final or not. Hopefully they increase the metal chip drop rate from omega pods or make them 100% drops off ultima/omega. That would be nice.

They'll just add ABCs to mob drop pools and have us hit staggers for them. White stagger gets you a metal chip. *nods*

it isn't that rare.. occasionally appears in clear chest for existing areas. with players being able to buy chips what you'll probably see is parties splitting like 3 ways to farm coins and get additional chances at the chip too.

used to have one but can't find it. musta tossed it..

edit: im guessing apollyon may have a bunch of unused floortypes.. but its hard to say. metal chip zone is identical to omega/ultima iirc... and those zones people rarel spend that much time in. apollyon its like max 30min and temenos would be 1hr max but you couldnt reach there as often. a lot faster these days

75 ABCs isn't really hard to make for any dedicated group nowadays at least. Take a group of 12, split off into groups of 2-4, do multiple zones at once (hell, cover all of Apollyon and get an Omega set while you're at it for more metal chip chance), have a chip ready for the next run from the collected ABCs.

I'm fairly confident that's the idea (plus you get the metal chip chance on each of the Apollyon runs themselves) - I highly doubt they'll change the acquisition method of metal chip or make it easier to get. It'll keep the old Limbus relevant, even when the majority of its drops are not. Group of 12 split 4 ways should be able to get enough coins for 2 metal chips at least, maybe even 3 depending on the runs you do.

there IS an easy way to make old zones relevant again, which is simply to do something similar to what they did in dynamis. add Artifact+2.
as long as the stats on them are job specific enough and boosted to level relevant to endgame power, and that maybe getting to +2 will require a repeat acquisition of one of the 2 original items, plus a number of new items in the new areas.. then basically you have a more or less revived limbus.

that said, they don't need to make it all that much popular because if they don't change the reservation system, they can't accommodate so many groups of players in there anyway.

Didn't they mention two acquisitions though? One acquisition is the material needed to augment prior gear. The other is the new set of armor with Homam modeling.

I thought they specifically said that they weren't going to be looking into upgrading AF+1 in the past. I could be wrong, though. Maybe they're having one thing with augmented homam/nashira, and then separately new sets of homam/nashira (hopefully with more jobs).
