Looks good.
Although they do use the word 'icon' to describe what is being changed, I have yet to see anything incicating that status icons are being altered, rather than only the ones to the left of names.
Yes, but the icon packs to which Gwynplaine is referring contain both. Personally, I wouldn't stop using the icon packs simply because of the upgraded icons shown in the screenshot.
I would because personally I'm not fond of the custom icons and I only really installed them for the better looking icons lol. And it was always a pain in the ass to run the font moji software to extract the ugly comic sans font.
I've never used a pack that has Comic Sans. The only one that did was rog's set, as far as I know.
Edit: It was the opposite for me. The cleaned-up icons were an added bonus, but being able to tell the difference between regen and refresh with a glance, or being able to tell the difference between Berserk and Hasso on the buff bar, for instance, were the real reasons to bother with finding the new packs.
Aye, was the same for me. The status icons (57.DAT) were the real reason I made the change, and font/miscellaneous display above heads (51.DAT) was nice but sort of tagged along and was a bit irritating to go back to the blurry italics font afterwards so I kept it in future releases.
Not exactly dev-tracker related, but not really worth its own thread either- http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/pol...ews20814.shtml
Really hoping that after that's done, the next POL update will be just making it a friends list manager, and an FFXI launcher......with an option to log straight into FFXI.
Anything that streamlines the login process is cool with me. SE just lives their menus with multiple options in game and out. It's nice to see they're branching out and making the whole game experience a bit more user friendly.
Seriously. POL is a nightmare to register shit with, especially with the capped download speeds from its servers making some of those pages take a year to load due to their graphics.
There is no reason that what they're doing will not benefit FFXI in the longer run. I'm just mainly curious what will happen to POL accounts that don't get transferred before the cut-off date. Guess that's one way to get me off my ass and link my 2box POL account with my main SE account. Shame POL won't remember SE passwords, was the main reason I haven't done it yet. >.>
reading that, it seems that anyone who is on a long break, or not playing for some reason, will lose their acct if they dont agree to the transfer by 8/31
They'd be stupid not to archive those accounts and set up a service similar to the one for character reactivation to migrate them over.
Yeah, two different login/passwords was ridiculous, heaven help me if I had to reinstall, I could never remember which was which. I never knew you could link more than one account to a SE ID, I should link my gf's/duobox account to my SE ID.
Does that include 360/PS2 accounts too?
Keep in mind the link is permanent. If shit happens with your gf......eh....
Hope you don't use an authenticator tag also, as she'd have to borrow it to log into hers if you linked it up.
It says 'all' PlayOnline accounts. It's 2011, there's no excuse to not have some means of access to a web browser if you have an online-enabled console.
I don't think that's right.
Makes it sound like you'll just need to do the transfer before you can access the account again. Since it's handled online, you don't actually have to login to POL to do any of this so there shouldn't be any issues. After August 31, 2011, however, access to PlayOnline and FINAL FANTASY XI will not be possible until the transfer process is completed.
Taken from the Official Forums. Pics were in JP, with translated versions forthcoming.Howdy!
As mentioned previously, the development team has been hard at work creating a new mode of chat that will allow players to be heard across all the areas within your current nation! I bring with me today a sample of what they're currently testing and planning to implement in the upcoming version update! I give you…the “Yell” feature!
*For the initial settings the text color is the same as shout
The yell feature will start with support in Jeuno so that we can monitor the effects it has on server lag. After examining the situation for a bit (and assuming no problems arise), we'll expand the yell feature to cover area-wide communications within San d'Oria, Bastok and Windurst.
Now you'll be able to yell for parties while keeping your chocobo fed, expanding your Gobbiebag, or just listing up your bone chips on the Auction House!
