Every zone in the game needs verdical confluxes. Would be a good gil sink to remove money from the game too.
Every zone in the game needs verdical confluxes. Would be a good gil sink to remove money from the game too.
Well lets see.. I wanted to get to Quicksand Caves entrance to Cloister of Tremors. That means Easter Altepa Desert. From Port Jeuno that would mean either shouting for a tele and chocoing to the entrance from the telepoint, which still isn't very close. Or warping to Abyssea-Attohwa and then OP warp to home nation, followed by OP warp to Eastern Altepa and then a long run to the entrance. x_x
There's THREE VW warps to Western Altepa Desert, but not a single one to Eastern? What gives...
Just one example really. No matter how you put it, it doesn't take a few seconds to get to where you want for all areas, despite the available modes of transportation.
Cloister is the NE entrance right? That's literally like 30 seconds on a chocobo from the tele. I get your point though, but honestly, still don't see the issue anymore. Just my opinion though that instantly warping anywhere you want is a little silly.
Just use wyrmazurka and you can get anywhere fast!
Lvl20+ SMN and hop aboard the mini-fork warps.
might as well make every zone a giant square patch that looks exactly the same and make it so you can access every quest and battle from 1 NPC while they're at it.
some people don't even want to play the game.
While I understand the basis of your post, travel in this game is really fucking slow. In the time it takes for me to run my cooking mule from MH to guild to check GP (since the sites always wrong: ffxiah reporting San d'Orian Tea, which I know is wrong, people on ffrecipe.com have made numerous reports that its Colored Egg...synth up 6 eggs, all guild had available in stock, go trade them in..."Were taking Squid Sushi today", cocksuckers) and synth it, I've lost 20-30 minutes of my life.
Theres playing the game, and theres stupid timesinks that serve no purpose whatsoever.
i get that travelling in the game is slow, i really do. and sometimes i wish this weren't the case, but this is partly the problem of a game that is straddling 2 MMORPG ideological eras.
FFXI is decidedly oldschool. above anything else, I think there is a strong emphasis on immersion and realism, which is why you have "reality cockblocks" like store opening hours and actual travel times on ferries and airships. they weren't originally there to make your life difficult - they just had no reason to make it easy because thats what people expected.
modern MMOs realize that people are willing to forego a lot of this for convenience, and give express routes, short cuts and stuff like that which take away from the "realism" of it all. almost all post Abyssea content in FFXI are the same in this respect. cruor teles woulda been unthinkable a mere 2 years ago, and even abyssea maw warps weren't part of its initial design.
my point tho is that I like FFXI, especially its areas for its personality - and i'd be afraid that too much hand-holding and convenience takes away from this.
old as they may be, a lot of zones have character that people readily forget because they're able to bypass all of it to get to whatever they need to do.
whilst some of the old areas were fairly troublesome in terms of granting access (Garlaige banishing gate / Eldieme lever shit), a good number of them rewarded players who bothered to explore those areas or ventured to figure them out (Paintbrush of Souls / Cast Metal Plate / Portal Charm / etc).
in other words, i do think that convenience in the game should be earned as players play the game and not given outright.
for what its worth, Abyssea did do this and it worked within the framework of that battle system, but I don't think littering a zone with warp NPCs is the way to make this happen.
i'd say content would be a lot more enjoyable if they just centralized their "quest hubs" a little more. sure everything is in town.. but the important things should all be closer and easier to get to. WotG wasnt so bad with executing this (even tho they had only 1 zone to work with per nation. that said, the campaign OP system was a major step ahead for convenience)
I think FFXIV could take a page from this concept too. there is a reason why Ul'dah is much more popular than the other 2 cities.

- FINAL FANTASY XI
Except all of the new speedy travel methods have to be earned by playing the game, for the most part. For the Confluxes, you still have to hoof your way around the zone. For VW Cruor warps, you still have to do the actual fight progression...something for the longest time a lot of people never bothered with. Campaign warps required you to have been to that area physically somehow.
im not saying this isn't the case already.. more that people shdnt expect it to be otherwise
Something smells fishy tho, why is the update 50Megs? I don't remember anything that could justify that filesize in this miniupdate. Am I missing something or SE just dumping some data on our HDDs for later use? Was there some stuff about the UI on there, seeing how the PS2 part is so much smaller.
Probably data dump, at least some of it. In the last test server update, Spira found enemy models and armor dats that won't be used until dungeon crawling is added, so that could be part of it.
No UI changes for PS2, only windows/360
Replied to this, one of you're earlier posts on this vein as its the one that strikes the most true. Again we agree, we want an expansive game that truly feels big. But we shrink it down. I'm not EVER asking for this back, but I (and I know a lot of us) enjoyed the ferry trip to Al Zahbi- there was this electricity about it. Sometimes, there is something to be said for the grandiose nature of this game and its zones/distances.
It's done to match the feel and style of the console versions, don't forget that. This did all start as a part of a console game only series. For better or for worse, it has evolved into a more MMO game, with the expectations of an MMO community.
WS Adj. & More Scythes for BST
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/th...992#post314992More scythes for beastmaster eh?
Well, the development team just told me that they do in fact have plans to add some new scythes to beastmaster's array of weaponry.
In regards to weapon skills, we are also planning to revamp each job's weapon skills in the future, but we can't make any promises about giving Guillotine and other EX weapon skills to beastmaster.
Duration of Blue Mage Buffs
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/th...996#post314996Hi everyone
Thanks for the easy to read list and your suggestions.
We ran the feedback by the development team and they mentioned that since blue magic spells have such high stats, they would like to proceed with adjustments carefully. Basically, if we were to extend the effect durations right now, the MP cost for the time granted would be lower, causing blue mages to be in a superior position, so thought needs to given to this when making adjustments.
Of the list that was given, there was an impression that Feather Barrier being a passive skill is difficult to really utilize within the short effect duration of 30 seconds, but for the rest of the spells the development team feels that they are not extremely difficult to utilize within their effect durations.
We will be adjusting Diffusion in the next version update and this will enhance the usability of these blue magic spells further, so we would like to see the effects from this and determine the necessity for adjustments.
