I am not sure if they are keeping up with the tradition, but they did state on one of the previous roadmaps that the dates were for when the items were added to the test server.

It would be nice to get those shiny new icons that they showed off a while back.

Because it wasn't entirely his fault. Even if every bad idea for FFXIV came directly from him, other members of the team either had to agree with him or had no power to stop him. If they agreed with him unconditionally, they are idiots. If they agreed with him because they were too polite to say "this idea is fucking awful and no one is going to play this", they should should sack up, cultural stigmas can go fuck themselves. If they agreed with him because they would be punished or they disagreed with him and had no power to stop him, then the corporate culture holds a lot of responsibility in the failure.

Tanaka takes a lot of heat, but there are a lot of people to blame for the failure of FFXIV, even if it was because no one stopped and said "would anyone actually want to play this?"

Anyone know if the XI partition increase for the PS2/3 users is a pre-determined amount based on how the PS2 handles shit, or something SE can set arbitrarily?

I'm assuming it's the former since it'd be a bit of a waste for them to budget an extra 9gb or so on their own terms if the game is winding down content-wise.

It may be a matter of they need to increase it slightly, so instead of increasing it each time there is an update it makes sense to increase it by a large amount one time.

I really want to know the full story behind FFXIV. It's not quite the Star Wars Episode 1 of video games but it's a close analogy.

    Greetings!

As many of you seem to be curious about the status of the Nomad Mog Bonanza, I’d like to take a moment to explain the current situation.

The North America and European Community Teams have been working diligently preparing for the Nomad Mog Bonanza, but unfortunately due to changing times and differing global laws, we will not be able to hold a Mog Bonanza for NA and EU regions moving forward.

While Japan will hold the Nomad Mog Bonanza at VanaFest 2012, it will mark the final Mog Bonanza of Vana’diel. Furthermore, to make sure that our players in North America and Europe aren't left out, we will be holding a separate event where players will be able to win similar prizes (all the goodies from tier 1, tier 2, and tier3…plus a bunch of other rare in-game items), so rest assured we will be giving you a good opportunity to make all your Vana’diel dreams come true!

Also, even though the Mog Bonanza will be gone, we will be offering a different event for our end of the year c1elebration for a chance to win the items of your dreams!

We will be announcing the NA/EU event very shortly, so hang tight and look forward to it!
    Oh dear SE.

It's not an US law that's causing this, at least if it is I'm confused as to what entity is threatening them over it and more importantly, why. The 'why' has me the most stymied.

A cursory review of US laws like the wired act and such seem to only prohibit transactions to/from banking institutions for the express purpose of online gambling. I can't imagine that there aren't better problems for the countries listed to be worried about at the moment than someone winning a Mythic and RMTing their account ¬_¬

its not a matter of whether there are better problems but rather that such a law is already in place

i'm assuming they want to get rid of any further legal complications that may arise from this, as i seem to remember they had some problems with the live broadcast of this in the past. and yes, it doesn't have to be tangible.

i fully expect them to have something else to replace the Mog Bonanza that circumvents laws around online gambling and will allow players to at least have access to the otherwise unobtainable lower rank items like past vana/fanfest battles. (that said, they should just allow players to do them regularly)

It's bullshit gambling laws in random ass countries. So dumb, they've have this problem every Bananas since the second or third that I remember.

The only thing I can think they'd do is to add a new tier to the mystery boxes. 5000 points for the Big Gold chest with same odds as winning a Bonanza prize.

You also can't mule pulse weapons anymore and they're making the craft KIs more useful.

40GB for the one that came packaged with FFXI. That drive would be 10 years old now. I guess they might still work, but I'd be a little surprised.

You can easily just reformat a new HD. There were CD's that came with xi to do just that.

I'm still using the HDD that I received from beta testing the PS2 version. Works fine.

Mine still works too, but I have a friend that killed two. He froze one (like, put it into his freezer... I don't know) and managed to get it to spin up long enough to get his save data off it. The other one tanked and he lost everything though.

No more mog bonanza, ever. They can't be arsed.

The end is nigh for FFXI, FFXI is now the tetra master of their online titles.

The big announcment at Vanafest will be a 1 month XIV sub!

Or they will just use the new even for everyone from that point on, just won't be bothering to change it for Japan right now.

Actually with mog bonanza, I think what killed THAT was the same laws that wouldn't let them have the gambling games in Pokemon in the remakes. (I read they had to do a diff game that didn't take ingame money because of some EU laws..)

Seems some countries don't like gambling in their games of any kind, even if it's virtual property. So not a case of "can't be arsed", it's a case of "We don't want to be sued! *cover butt*"
