because slowing down a mob's attack speed totally slows down its TP gain a legitimate, worthwhile to mention amount. I mean, if we were even tanking in the olden days, a lot of time they wouldn't even get TP anyway because they would be hitting a fucking shadow.

please look at how TP is gained by all targets due to all actions, and get back to me. majority of mob TP gained is not due to actions it takes, but actions others take on it.

I don't agree with your condemnation of Paralyze, it's such an underappreciated debuff. Sure it doesn't stop TP moves, but the damage that it can prevent over time adds up.

Be careful what you wish for RDM folks. We SMN used to wish to be useful, and we became one trick ponies.

You did actually have some time in the sun.

Fixing RDM doesn't require new spells or JAs. Give enspell II strong - magic evasion and + elemental affinity effect which gradually increase in potency if repeatedly applied up a maximum value based on caster's enhancing magic skill, e.g. Enstone II with enhancing magic skills of 500 boosts Slow II and Elegy effect (and damage output of any earth based spells) by 30% after 20 hits.

On top of that, each successful land of enspell adds 100 VE and 100 CE - and we will have a new enfeebling tank. Temper and Murgleis can finally stop sucking.

Depends on what RDM has to offer. A highly self sufficient tank which has the potential to boost your BLM damage significantly and allows melee to focus on DD (and indirectly enhance melee's performanace via Dia III) can be quite handy. In rare situation when magic accuracy is desirable, using the correct enspell also helps other job to land enfeebling spells (e.g. NIN trying to land Aisha to proc weakness).

Can a fully buffed and geared RDM even handle taking damage from modern NMs without voidwatch temp abuse?

they always had to ride utsusemi, they could never really take a hit - but back then they had relatively easy to acquire PDT gear compared to other jobs, and im sure now 50% isn't really difficult to obtain.

they would just never hold hate, and their value would never outweigh an aegis or ochain in any applicable situation you'd ever want one of them tanking

RDM in its current form can't tank (obviously).

Are you seriously questioning RDM's survivability? lol

There is a reason why SE are forced to nerf enfeebling spell enmity. Spell recast cap would have make RDM so overpowered that PLD and NIN will not be able to keep up with hate. Of course this was in the good old days when ppl still care about fight that requires a proper tank.

Not really paid attention to tank/melee RDM post 75-cap, so I wasn't certain how well that all scaled to 99, outside of better gear to hit PDT cap, and more Fast Cast. Modern NMs (re: Legion, T6 VW) hit my SCH & SMN pretty fucking hard even compared to stuff back at 75-cap days, so I wasn't sure how RDM would fare.

Not suggesting ppl should bring a tank job to fights best done with zerg party. If SE wants to revive RDM, they will need to do more than "enfeebling hack", plus we all know SE do not have the resource to implement new fancy spells/JAs. Enspell II adjustment may just make the job slightly more appealing.

yeah but your suggestions were to make rdm a tank, the exact thing se nerfed

they'd need more though, because they would die easily. they wouldn't take anywhere nearly as well as a war/drk/mnk/sam/anything, and they'd do a ton less damage. what would be the point, surviveability? they don't have that, and they certainly don't have ochain/aegis at their disposal. you're living in a dream world where a rdm melee could beat a naked mnk with just a black belt in a merit parse (hint: they can't)

They could give Rdm the unique abilities of other jobs, like they did when they gave Rng TH. Maybe Rdm could have Sneak Attack. MAAAAAAGIC sneak attack.

    Read my post again >.>

The whole idea of buffing enspell is to complement enfeebling hack. I am not arguing we should bring RDM as a tank job to zerg fight. And never in my post have I implied RDM will should hold hate by dealing damage. Adding extra enmity to enspell is only icing to the cake, e.g. in case of wipe RDM can still hold the NM while the party recover.

Again it brings us back to the discussion why we even bother with enfeebling magics. Unless SE introduce NMs that are highly resistant to physical damage and take away the stupid weakness system, players are going to stick to melee zerg. Given the number of limited (or near non existent) fight that requires a proper tank job, SE should be a bit more generous if they ever consider adjusting enspell II.

RDM isn't supposed to tank. SMN isn't supposed to melee. Stop being stupid.

Look, I'm sorry that RDM has lost a LOT of it's luster, but the days of them soloing almost every mob under the sun are over, and rightly so. That was stupid and you know it.

RDM should be a buffing enfeebling machine. Fixing the enfeeble issue or giving them something special to buff would be far better than trying to make them a tank. Plus they just added Rune Fencer, so we don't need yet another tank.

Do you even read my post? How is 30% boost to Slow and Elegy potency not significant? And 30% extra damage for BLM nukes?

RDM should only be on the front line if it enhances their ability to debuff enemy/ buff party members. If SE ever consider adjusting enspell, it will have to be a significant boost +/- other beneficial effect for players to even think about bringing a RDM. And throwing in extra enmity may just make the concept a little more appealing, e.g. RDM become a decent co-tank when they introduce tougher, non-melee friendly NMs in future expansion. Something similar to KS 99 turtle - RDM hold turtle with enblizzard II, spam blizzard IV when it goes into shell, eliminates the need to bring melee/ BLU to make darkness skill chain

    1) Make all RDM self buffs single target instead.
    2) Allow all buffs to stack with Accession.
    3) Give a boost to buff duration, possibly by allowing Composure to affect all targets when you Accession a buff on yourself (and AF3+2 bonus when applicable).

There, you just fixed RDM in a day. Now RDM is the best offensive healer, especially for lowman situations. I wish the fix for Dancer was so easy.

I'd be cool with Composure's full effects on everyone prior +2 set bonus. Accession's kinda iffy on sub-locking, even though /SCH was probably my favored /mage sub. Not really jonesin' on every buff being ST'd since macro space can be tight enough and not everyone uses Spellcast. For example, I only had one enspell and gain spell macro'd that I'd modify in my txt binds as situation demanded. But yeah, no thanks on being a ST Haste/Refresh/Enspell/Temper/Gain/Phalanx/Stoneskin/Aquaveil/Cure whore who would maybe nuke now and then if you're not fighting a dispel-happy mob. Such might be great to have around, but I still wouldn't call it fun to play, joking with Septy aside.

because right now, please tell me which mobs' Auto Attacks actually pose a threat to anyone staying alive.

RDM's enfeebles in their current form are useless.
