I read the original posts, I'd love that system. Very well thought out, and I can see SE going that way because honestly they have kinda locked themselves with the way the Armoury system works at the moment.
About the stupidity of the players posting, I agree that some people are retarded, but it's not as bad as you guys say it is. I don't spend my time on the forums though, and I must admit that seeing 30 new topics everytime I go there is annoying, but honestly I've seen some very decent threads and some players have good ideas. Not everything that comes from the official forums is worthless shit. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they're perfect, far from that, but come on, at least give it a chance.
Also, I loved FFXI, and having "FFXI-2" wouldn't have bothered me (tbh I would have played FFXI-2 over the shit we currently have anyday, but eh). While I agree that the nostalgia factor plays a big role, I don't think I'd have played for 6 years if it was that bad. Now I know this won't be FFXI-2 and that's fine, I'll ride the FFXIV train either way cause if they get their shit together, there's a chance it will be good. But saying people who would've liked FFXI-2 are dumbfucks is pretty stupid and shows how narrow-minded you're being...
I keep on seeing this pop up. What's wrong with XIV that wouldn't be wrong with XI-2? Do you people honestly think that some of the horrible development decisions that ruined XIV wouldn't have ruined any other project if it had been made by the same people under the same conditions?(tbh I would have played FFXI-2 over the shit we currently have anyday, but eh)
Would they have magically found time/will/resources to use more than 5 area textures in FFXI-2? Would we suddenly have a lot of content besides grinding jobs? Would the input lag magically not be there? Modeling the new game around FFXI instead of around new ideas doesn't suddenly give them more time, resources, or motivation than they had when making XIV. We'd have an AH, I can agree with that.
Am I missing something here? Am I just too cynical?
No, I didn't mean that as in "If they had decided to make FFXI-2 the game at release and beyond would have been so much better than FFXIV", I'm just talking about the Final Fantasy "identity" and the game mechanics in a general way. You know, like the battle mechanics, magic bursts, auto attack, jobs with names that don't suck, etc. My point simply was, why reinvent the wheel when what you come up with is worse? Novelty is good when it doesn't suck, and currently the novelty part of FFXIV's mechanics sucks (although some ideas are good).
Cynical, sure. Repetative, yes. It's like this forum functions on circular argumentation. They made a mistake, now they're trying to fix it. I fear it'll be all too soon before we read another post like that one again.
Eh? I didn't say that. If given a choice between XI-2 and what we have now in XIV I think the majority here would pick XI-2, myself included. What I'm saying is that XI did a lot of things wrong and everyone forgets that. Obviously it wasn't as bad as we're making it out to be but it sure as hell wasn't peaches and cream.
To me when I hear XI-2 I keep thinking "same gameplay, just different graphics/areas" which to me seems pointless in a business standpoint. Since why would you want to play the same exact thing from scratch with different settings? I can understand that Tanaka wanted to try to make this game feel different, however at the same time he abandoned some good ideas for shit ones instead of trying to improve on successful systems (Prime example is taking out the AH system for the wards).
XIV should have been an evolution of XI, doing shit that XI couldn't do. Not done with the attitude of "anything that was in XI must be done different in XIV".
Good point, what I'm trying to say is just making something that feels like XI wouldn't be a good idea since the odds of it attracting a dedicated fanbase seems a bit of a stretch.
Anyway, as for the Forums. I do wonder if we'll see a letter soon about ideas. I know with the situation in Japan there will be a week or two of setbacks however it would be nice to hear Yoshi-P's thoughts on the ideas since outside of the PvP statement and something else we haven't heard a lot.
Well, it's been a week now so I guess we still might see 1.16a this month (if they weren't planning to release them simultaneously). If everything goes like with 1.15b it'll be quite insignificant patch, but at least it shows that they're getting their shit together.Anyway, as for the Forums. Odds are we won't see anything major until April or May is my guess. That's when he was hoping of having the battle system reworked, which is taking up a good chunk of the staffs time.
I have a feeling that 1.17 will be the introduction of companies with 1.18 being the big battle/end game patch in May. Or maybe they'll jump to 1.2 for that with it being such a major update. Yoshi has said all the server side things for companies have been done, and surely for that to be completed all the client side stuff must be working too. 1.17 was probably originally going to come in the first few days of April but due to the delay it will be mid April. 1.16b might be there when the servers come back online if they stay down another week as it will be a minor patch.
That thread about the servers coming back up tomorrow is so retarded, I had to stop reading by the third page.
Even if servers aren't up tomorrow, at least Dissidia 012 will be released. I hate going to Gamestop but they're usually faster getting stuff than Best Buy is.
Also, wasn't Yoshi-P looking towards the forums as for what to do with companies? Since it still feels like we're being left in the dark with them.
Well this is what he said in letter 6.
"I had intended to announce this in a future letter, but we will release information regarding the Grand Companies of Eorzea (what were referred to as “public companies” in previous posts) just before patch 1.17 goes live. We are currently readying a page dedicated to this exciting new feature, and hope to have it up on the Lodestone shortly."
and letter 5:
"My next letter will be sometime after the Game Developers Conference, when I'm back on Japanese soil. Patch 1.16 will be live by then, and I'm planning on diving into the topic of in-game companies! All of the system-side preparations have been made, and it's almost time for Eorzea's radical transformation to begin!"
It sounds like they have everything decided on and they're just developing a Lodestone page about them (difficult due to the disaster and translators leaving) that will go up before 1.17. If they aren't coming in 1.17 I don't see why they'd be so concerned about getting that info up before 1.17. Plus in letter 5 it sounds like he was ready to talk about them a week or two ago but then the disaster hit. I expect companies when implemented to just be a shell with a small amount of content that they can build on over the coming year or so and add lots of cool stuff, some of which based on player feedback.
Good point, we'll find out soon enough I suppose.
Seems like they adjusted the forums today. Wonder if you're supposed to post ideas in general still, or go to the appropriate section now? (IE: Economy ideas in the wards/retainers section).
Surely that's why the new sections exist. I can see the general forum becoming more of an "everything but FFXIV" forum in time.
Probably, now it's just a matter of if I want to write up my idea on a new market system that will be a mix of the AH and Market Wards and deal with idiots.
