my "emergency bike" just snapped off at the pedal today @.@ (not just the pedal itself but I guess I'll call it the stem as well). so now I don't have the luxury of waiting around for the right bike.

I see an old bicycle for 85, vintage free spirit. However, it's only 10 speed. My question is how do those compare to the 21-24 speed bikes of today? Can I still get my max resistance for max speed and they cut out some of the lower resistances or did they keep the lower ones and cut out the higher ones?

What snapped exactly? The pedal axle, the threads right out of the crank arm end, or the whole crank right off the bottom bracket by the frame?

The 10 speeds will be 2 rings up front and 5 in the back. 21-24 have 3 rings up front but you only need 2 for road riding. The overall gear spread will be similar on the back gears but the difference in jumps will be smaller the more gears you have.

Its 65, probably will take 50 np, and your what 5 10", 6'? Perfect fit.

Bike I got hit on for comparison purposes (no clue where I even got this it was just in my back yard one day. I assume my uncle stole it? But the tires, tubes, chain, and cassette had to be replaced, so no clue why he'd steal a bike in such shitty condition)

Well as I said, it was an "emergency" bike. It's honestly not even worth fixing. it doesn't shift (cable snapped when i tried to do this). that black piece that keeps the chain from falling off is about to snap off itself. The brakes don't work. The front and back tires are both severely bent (made this bike from like 4 other broken bikes). It's truly a piece of shit in every sense of the word, lol.

Time to just replace the damn thing.

Single speed/fixed gear road bikes are utterly retarded. 99% of the people riding them are doing it for no logical reason, and the kicker is all the single/fixies I find are fucking expensive considering the lack of components.

I work for Trek and have to say the 1200 is the much better option. As far as Carbon forks go, if your just commuting, don't bother. If you ride outside for fun, race, or do charity rides, go for it as it does help dampen the bumps.

he Cannondale Touring bikes are considered the best for touring, but if your not going to be wanting some long distance with saddle bags to camp out stuff...But if its in nice shape for a nice price and you want a bike to get back into it than by all means. You will be able to sell it for what you paid for it very easily. The handmade Aluminum Cannondales are in high demand.

Ug, I just dropped a bunch of money repairing my bike after my bottom bracket broke into thirds while I was going like a madman, I lost control as a result. Somehow I managed to get out of it unscathed other than a sore perineum. However the bike needed quite a bit of work.

On a side note, anyone on the forums going to be doing the STP this year? If you are planing to go down in 2 days and you don't have a group, as long as you aren't a dick you're welcome to join us.

Well it doesn't look like the Freespirit is going to be an option @.@ 50 miles away and I can't arrange for a ride to go get it.


Looks like I'm going to have to fall back to Emergency Bike 2.0. Rims from emergency bike 1.0 don't fit emergency bike 2.0 and the tires from 1.0 don't fit the rims from 2.0.

So it looks like I'll be riding on 2 rims, lol until further notice.

If the price and condition are right, Id recommend that bike if its your size for a touring bike. I'll assume its used and not a new old stock leftover, can take a look at the ad too.
