Rock-Paper-Scissors: You vs. the Computer (NYTimes)

Pretty fun little time waster if you're bored, and it's interesting to see how the computer comes to it's answers (click on "See what the computer is thinking"). I consistently stayed ahead of it in ~40 games, usually by 2-5 wins. Ties took the lead at the end though.

    http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/s...-scissors.html

Edit: 40 games for 15 wins, 15 ties, 10 losses. I think it still needs to learn a bit (this was on "Veteran" difficulty where it supposedly has access to 200,000 moves.)

20 wins, 10 ties, 10 losses on veteran. Pretty fun seeing how it predicts your moves.

Is that supposed to be a correction of the title (I mean that legitimately not inflammatory)? If so I've never heard it called such, and the NY Times article and Wikipedia both list it as shown here.

    It's 200,000 observed results, dummy.

That's a pretty good score (at least compared to mine - I have no others to base judgment on).

Also, I guess I should have mentioned 40 rounds isn't necessary or some kind of "checkpoint" it was simply how many I had decided to quit on. I believe 20 minimum is needed for you to upload your stats. 20 seems too small a sample for me to really feel how the computer is doing so I figured 40 was better, though still too small of a sample really.

I think once it gets up into a database size in the millions of samples then it will be a much more worthy opponent. Seeing as it's on the NY Times and on Slashdot I can't imagine it'll take too long though.

    DERP.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

the OP meant previous moves like cephius said.

    read the actual damn page.

Choose from two different modes: novice, where the computer learns to play from scratch, and veteran, where the computer pits over 200,000 rounds of previous experience against you.

the op didn't say anything wrong. It does have access to 200,000 moves. And it doesn't make it less derp that they commented on the op without actually clicking the link.

also oddly enough I am having a higher win streak on veteran than on novice.

Yes, "access to 200,000 moves" as in a history of 200,000 results to analyze for patterns to determine what the user will likely pick next. What the fuck else could it mean? NICCA U DUMB

I admit I could have worded it better, but damn that is what the article is for people. Mine was just a quick edit to throw some extra info in for people before they clicked over so they didn't miss the settings/extra stuff, and to give people something to compare to.

    backpedaling leroy strikes again!

the derp was justified, ceph was well aware of what he was referring to, there was no point in you posting it.
