I was having a similar problem where I'd, for instance, pick scissors 3 times in a row and win each (for some reason scissors worked best for me /shrug) then I'd wonder "It likely thinks I'm going to switch since I've played it three moves in a row now should I stick with it instead?" Reminds me of the old movie/cartoon bit "Well if he knows I know that he knows..."

Yeah, it looks like it parses all of the results and isolates patterns and uses it to try to determine what you're going to pick next. I tried to outsmart it but clearly failed

Yeah, that's exactly what it's doing. If you click on the "Show me what it's thinking" box it'll show you the interesting thought process behind it's moves (you have to keep clicking to delve deeper into it) if you haven't already done so.

Don't feel bad Melena. It's probably had it's samples doubled since I originally posted since it has been Slashdotted and posted to various forums (on top of being on the times website). It's actually beating me or ending in a tie much more on the game I'm trying now (only one I've played since the OP). Then again could just be coincidence.

Edit: 8-14-18 was my final score. Seemed like it was more weak to paper this time, but I was still trying to sneak in scissors too frequently, and it got me pretty much every time.

@Ksandra Pretty nice score. What move did you tend to lean towards more often, if any?

Why does the deepest layer show me what he's about to throw?! I would rather him show me why he threw what he did last time.

Yeah, I disliked that about it as well. I guess it's to showcase the whole thought process in real-time, rather than looking back, since it would be kind of weird to watch all the info for the one you just did while you are in another round.

13-16-29 by having it in another tab and swapping back to it and trying to avoid seeing the result and picking whatever option looked good at the time. Based on how good the computer is doing this must be how most other people played because it seems to know what I am going to do when even I don't know.

also oddly enough I am having a higher win streak on veteran than on novice.

It make some sort of sense.. Learning the patterns used by a single person is most likely easier than learning a more general pattern.
