South Jersey would have you believe it is Philly lite, Pennsylvania would contest.

So, depends where you live. Most people I know from the big N-Y do not enjoy being lumped in w/ Jersey.

New Jersey has no identity of its own, clings to the nearest big city and emulates it, and is generally looked down upon by all the emulated state. I mean, I'm from the PA/NJ/DE tri-state area, and PA & DE both hate Jersey.

Likewise, I hear similar reports from NY/NJ/CT tri-state area, though my experience is more limited there.

Jersey is there specifically to make getting to NY as unenjoyable as possible. There are lights in the points of darkness, but they are dim and few and far between.
