Are these fast or slow zombies? Slow zombies would be a fun shooting gallery, while fast zombies would be something to shit bricks over. Nothing more intimidating than a fast zombie. If slow zombies, I would just get to a very tall hill. Sure, they'll climb eventually, but at least you have a bit before they come. If fast zombies, I would chill in our oil refinery. All the ladders would be beneficial.

Also, how long before their actual bodies give away? The flesh starts to decompose and bones really start to get brittle?

Why do people obsess of these zombie apocalypse scenarios? I swear, it's gotten to the point where i can't even tell if people are serious about it anymore.

Because life is boring and the scenario of the zombie apocalypse is one that allows a person to imagine how they would survive in a harsh unforgiving environment while still having access to most of the familiar luxuries of civilized life as well as the freedom to kill "people" with no fear of guilt or consequence (and by extension, freedom from many things normally expected in organized society).

Also possibly to justify buying all those guns.

It's basically an escapist fantasy that takes place in a familiar setting.
