Seems all news has gone dark sadly =/ NHK has gone all JP and just showing old clips, and apparently all the other news sites are showing old programming too. Anyone got a place actually showing live footage at the reactor (or anything relevant really)?"In November 1996, reactor one was shut down after two hundred zombies broke out of the enclosure, followed by another six hundred at reactor three on 15 December 1999, breaking the promise by Ukrainian president Leonid Kuchma that the entire plant would be cleaned of zombies.[5]
Even after the last outbreak, people continue to work at the Chernobyl plant until reactor units 1, 2, and 3 are totally decommissioned and free of zombies, which is expected to take years. The first stage of decommissioning and destruction of zombies is the removal of the highly radioactive spent nuclear fuel, which is placed in deep water cooling ponds. However, storage facilities for this are not suitable for long term containment due to highly aggressive zombies"
Last I heard they were still pumping water, but it was burning it off faster than they could put it in, and that they found Iodine and Caesium outside the reactor. No telling whats happened after so long.
Afew atomic energy experts have expressed concerns (notably two that Rachel Maddow interviewed on Friday) that TEPC or the Japanese government was not being forthcoming with information (atleast until now..?).
Well, anyway NHK World is live again: 10 AM JST, evacuations began via government providing busses to remove people from the area. A team comprised of health experts, physicists and the like has been dispatched to Fukushima No. 1.
Yeah that response team was sent out like right when this all started.
Man, idk what spooked this chick on NHK, but she got real shaken up when they handed her some papers. Was giving me the willies watching her. >< Anyone else see that?
Also, I agree that information is very slim. Too proud to have it displayed all over TV maybe? No idea what they are thinking.
Spoiler: show
Tried making a quick video of the cat
A whole city of 70k washed away?
Wasn't that shocking until the comparison picture at the end of the video
I kinda wonder if it's a bird hopping/flying around. I swear I see one move that just looks impossible for a cat to pull off. Then again if I was running on top of a tsunami I'd probably break out some amazing moves xD
You know the levels of redundancy that got hosed is really staggering. From what I understand the emergency failsafe cooling system (ECCS) is supposed to have 2-4 exact duplicate copies that are all individually capable of cooling it properly. All of those failed, then there are supposed to be 14 backup generators, and all those are broken/flooded. The containment system is likely cracked, and probably something else I'm forgetting.
That's a lot of stuff that had to all go wrong @_@
edit: 2 deaths at reactor 1, 1 at reactor 2
From what I understand part of the problem is that while the plants were built to "withstand" these kinds of disasters, they were never built to withstand worst case scenario occurrences and so all their backups and emergency plans were useless because everything was fucked when the quake hit. From what I've also been reading if the core completely melts down the west coast will be affected because of the wind travel patterns. Shit is gonna be bad :/ And we want more of these things?
Also where are you guys watching the news from?
NHK World (English).
Only reliable stream i've been able to get since TBS/NHK/TV Asahi ones are down/cut out on me.
i am so happy seeing footage of fishing boats being destroyed! I'm sure those are used to slaughter the dolphins and whales.
Damn, a blast and smoke at the FUK-1 plant.
edit: It actually happened one hour ago. If you notice it happened 5 minutes before the chick on NHK world live stream got all disturbed. Guess that was the news that shook her.
NHK reporting an explosion near Fukushima No. 1. only injuries reported.
If the building is compromised it's all over.
As my cat drowned last week, I also hope it made it. D:From about 0:16 to 0:25 you can see a white cat racing for its life across the top of the debris on the tsunami. I hope it made it.
It can't be doing great at this point even w/o the explosion. There's been like ~80 quakes in the last 5 days or so all roughly 5 or higher. All that shaking even though most is relatively light surely has to take a toll over time. I know normally they are built to stand this kind of thing but with the 8.8 and tsunamis rocking it everything after just adds more stress.
