anyone else feel like we've been fighting World War 3 vs Nature the last few years with all the natural disasters? except we're losing pretty badly and all we can do is defend ourselves T_T
First order contamination reports courtesy of WNN.
Once again, this is a bit vague because they're using CPM as a measurement. Counts Per Minute tell you the amount of detected disintegration events per minute (DPM) which can be correlated to a Curie content which we measure contamination by. People get confused by these two terms all the time, contamination vs radiation. Simplest explanation - contamination is the shit, radiation is the odor. We can determine dose from Curie content using thumbrules based on the isotopes in question. Problem is we would need to know which isotope it was for those people exposed in order to get an idea of exposure received in Sieverts or REM, and the article doesn't say. Roughly speaking, 1 Curie ~ 2.2 x 10^12 dpm and 1 cpm ~ 10 dpm. So even with counts measured in the 100k (1.0 x 10^5 cpm) range (thus 1.0 x 10^6 dpm), we're still talking about rather low levels of contamination.
Not much else to say right now. Unit 2 seems stable, Unit 1 received the worst of it due to not having enough power quick enough for cooling efforts but no concise reports on the actual damage incurred, and Unit 3 is suffering from water level indication problems as well as pressure rising which indicates that the pressure relief valves might be on the verge of failure and could require manual relief efforts.
Not sure if this been posted yet.

"A volcano in southwestern Japan erupted Sunday after nearly two weeks of relative silence, sending ash and rocks up to four kilometres (two and a half miles) into the air, a local official says."
It was not immediately clear if the eruption was a direct result of the massive 8.9-magnitude earthquake that rocked northern areas Friday, unleashing a fierce tsunami and sparking fears that more than 10,000 may have been killed.
The 1,421-metre (4,689-feet) Shinmoedake volcano in the Kirishima range saw its first major eruption for 52 years in January. There had not been any major activity at the site since March 1.
Authorities have maintained a volcano warning at a level of three out of five, restricting access to the entire mountain.
In April last year, the eruption of the Eyjafjoell volcano in Iceland dispersed a vast cloud of ash, triggering a huge shutdown of airspace that affected more than 100,000 flights and eight million passengers.
Where'd you begin clearing up all the debri, there's so much of it. No doubt someone will make money from it.
Volcano now? Just no break for them.
Shinmoedake erupted back in January
So they started rolling blackouts. My city is on the list 3 times (thats 9 hours of no power lol).
bill nye on CNN talking about the nuclear reactors
I think everyone knew there would be volcano eruptions, it was just a matter of when it would happen. Honestly im surprised it took this long.
Earthquake, Tsunami, Volcano, Nuclear Disaster...... Whats next? Jeez.
Godzilla.
