GOP: We're dismissing your elected officials

I felt this deserved its own thread considering the gravity of what we're talking about.

Republicans in Michigan have come up with a revolutionary solution to the state’s growing budget crisis: claim the right to auction off entire municipal entities, like cities, counties, school districts and water systems.

In a new bill being pushed by Governor Rick Snyder (R), the governor, or a company hired by the governor, would have the power to declare municipal entities insolvent. Amid the fiscal emergency, the governor or the governor’s agent would then be empowered to appoint an emergency manager to oversee all financial matters.
Under language in the bill, that individual would be able to cancel any and all contracts — including collective bargaining rights for unions — and outright dis-incorporate whole cities, dismissing lawfully elected officials in the process.

In short, “they want a corporate monopoly state,” author Naomi Klein explained during an appearance on Wednesday’s Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC.
This video is from The Rachel Maddow Show, broadcast Wednesday, March 9, 2011.

both sides are just as fucked up >.> middle ground people need to somehow get a hold of this country.

Why the teachers have not just come out and said "ya we are sucking" point being taking everything away is wrong, but taking nothing away is just as wrong.

its had to have been said but their collective bargaining rights is not fully on the chopping block. Just parts of it. Like how much they pay into their pensions.

The teacher union rep at my school has even said something needs to be done. He sees nothing wrong with them losing stuff(himself as well) if they are failing as badly as it is.

your really going to tell me that the teachers dont blow? scores are down, failing rate is up. And we want to give them just as much?

Screw that. When you give a better product you will get paid better.

    Edit:
thats one thing gov't unions have really messed up, there is little to no reason to do a better job then the next person. Hate a company like MS all you want, but if you do your job better then the next person. you may get a raise, you may get promotion.

The fact that my High school teacher can for his last three years work a little harder and bump up his pension to 100k+ after doing nothing the other 30 years is messed up and a screwed up system.

I don't know how they can possibly think this is legal in any way. First off, it clearly violates the eminent domain clause of the Fifth Amendment in that the seized property is not reimbursed with "just compensation" but instead at auction. Plus if you remember many states passed supplemental laws or state constitutional amendments in the wake of Kelo v. New London to prevent land for economic development reasons, which is pretty much exactly the goal of this proposal (seize the land & sell it to cronies/developers/billionaire scum at 100% profit). This is pure redistribution of property wealth, from the lower & middle classes to the state to the rich. Where's the hardcore libertarians on this?

Second, but definitely not least, you have the state government seizing political control of a local elected government and dismissing them without cause. Essentially this is nationalization - pure and simple Chavezian socialism- only on a state level. And it's not to benefit the citizens or society, but to benefit private landowners and corporations.

Your going to tell me that parents who don't give two shits about what little johnny and suzie are doing and let them run amok and do stupid shit and feign ignorance/blame video games and then say it's teachers fault Johnny went and shot his neighbor over some crack? Two reasons scores are down. 1. Parents don't do shit to help there kids better themselves. 2. You got teachers starting at 30k+ benefits having to shell out of there own pockets school supplies cause education is always the first thing to get cut when politicians need money to pay back some corporate favors during election time. To put the entire blame on teachers is fucking retarded. And don't get me started on the whole "derpderp they have summers off derp derp" bullshit. Teachers already have to either A: Teach summer school, or B: have there checks be smaller during the school year so they can maintain income till they have the seniority to even be able to work summer school.

I may devils advocate many many things but anyone saying teachers are being overpaid or aren't working hard enough has seriously lost their fucking mind.

Also especially since it's Michigan that came up with this boneheaded idea, i'm amazed no one has mentioned this
