Bullshit. If you get rated low enough, none of your posts get shown, which is in essence the same as a ban or having your posts deleted by the moderators. Usually, having your post reported to the SE mods gets it deleted, which has the same effect as being rated into oblivion.
Really? I don't remember that. I posted back in like 2005 though and left that site forever when IGE bought them and it became Zam. So maybe it was different then.
No. Filtering posts below sub default has always been an option (via a drop down at the top of every page). In the past you could not show unrated posts, but getting that low required massive amounts of rate downs, so it was not much of an issue.gl
Ah. I wonder how many people would actually want to view sub-default posts, though? Probably not many, as someone with a low rating probably isn't worth reading in the first place. At any rate, I never did like their style of ass-kissing and police yourself-ness.
Someone usually always ends up quoting sub default stuff though, so you're still stuck reading it sometimes. I like to see what people wrote anyways to get rated so low, otherwise it just ends up looking as if one person is talking to themselves.
Alla's rating system was great for the amount of butthurt it caused. Long ago I made a script to randomly select a rating from the drop-down box. I would go through every page and rate every single post randomly. It was awesome. However, people were bitching on Site Feedback about "karma campers" and I got norated as a result
As an aside, I love how "please ban starcade" is still prominent on the tag cloud. It's like a giant neon "bg wuz here" sign
I tagged over 100 thread with it. It's there to stay.
Most people turn the filter off. All the best posts are sub default.Ah. I wonder how many people would actually want to view sub-default posts, though? I think Rambus is intentionally making illogical posts, so we could report it on the pretense that it is trolling and not contributing to the conversation. I'm not saying we should report it, but I'm not not saying we shouldn't people that intentionally make no sense for the purpose of aggravating posters.
That said:

Is there any reason why some threads are locked while others are deleted? <removed personal references> My personal theory is that the closed threads have good ideas, but need other people to shut up while the deleted threads were just bad to begin with. However, I would like to ask you (Moogles and GMs) what motivates you to pick one over the other.Den of Rancher: (Was) LockedThis particular thread is going to be locked so that people reviewing the thread can see the Moderator's comment regarding the situation and why it was locked.

What's sad is that even this post makes more sense than the shit Rambus posts.
I'll need to take a course on it first. What's that called again? Rambology?
Rambology actually sounds cool, like RAMBO + logy, which would be rather badass. We wouldn't want him to think we think he's badass in any way, shape, or form.
The study of how Rambo kicks ass, basically. Rambupidity works though.
On official, does it list what server your on, like how BG does? (well the option). I'm curious what server these winners are on and if any Ifrit people and Odin (since we're being moved there in a week) are some of the more...infamous posters
While I'll agree that many of the sub-default posts are the best ones at Alla, many aren't and quite frankly sorting through them was just as obnoxious as trying to find the good posts among the bad on the OForums. I realize that all karma was was the color of your name, but seriously, there was a concentrated effort by a lot of posters to do their best to (for many users) silence people whose opinions they disagreed with. Much like what Rambus and others are doing in this instance.
That's basically all I was saying.
Allas rating system is absolute shit. Aside from a select few posters (Tummie earned that guru, and for good reason), the system works something like this:
Guru: Posts lots of funny stuff/kisses lots of ass and built a ton of high karma at a low post count.
Sage: Also posts funny stuff/kisses ass but just didn't build karma as high at low post count.
Scholar: Pretty much neutral
Gray name: Open minded people that speak the truth, post factual information, etc.
Just tonight someone posted in general about how osama bin laden was finally killed. And they got rated down + thread locked. That's alla for ya.
