Eh. Personally Ray, I have a friend in Japan who's been confirmed okay, so I know the worry of missing people. As far as your cousins, I am sorry for your loss. And even on a broader scope, I can get where you're coming from. Had to deal with off color jokes about real shit when real shit has happened to me or my family.

But it's just a part of the human condition. That does not make it right, and it takes a pretty fucked up sense of humor, but the alternative is that everything is fucking terrifying. People joke about horrible shit, and perhaps it's because we're desensitized to true tragedy at this point, maybe it is a coping mechanism. Not even saying on a personal level. Even removed from shit, when it doesn't affect you or people you know, comprehending that level of tragedy is staggering.

I can't tell you what to do, but you are going to waste a lot of time and energy getting pissed off by bad timing or insensitive jokes.

I obviously don't know the full extent of the situation, but I don't think its unreasonable to request acquaintances/friends to refrain from joking about the situation around him, given his loss. The fact that it seems to have continued past that point is straight up being an asshole, and not respecting your friend enough to listen to his request.
