People who have stuck with all the shit FFXIV has thrown our way so far aren't going to quit. In fact I'm liking the idea of getting a break from the game. I'm sure development will continue even during server downtime once they go back to work so by the time we get playing again the big changes won't seem far off. SE has written off a whole month of subscription for FFXI so whether the servers are down for a week or a month isn't going to matter financially to them now.

Got to admit it's starting to suck not having XIV, I've been trying to keep my mind off the events by keeping busy in it and other games but can't find anything to keep me occupied.

Saw before I went to bed that the 3rd reactor blew, so I don't know if a week is going to be accurate, unless they're moving the servers somewhere. Going to finish up a few games I have lying around now lol.

Burn the online FF games both, hope to God the Japanese manage to recover from this without it completely destroying all of their lives. It's bad enough what's happened already, the aftermath is sounding pretty horrible, and like it's only going to get worse for a while.

Praying for the Japanese right now, anybody who complains anywhere about not being able to play FFXI/XIV with what's going on over there right now should get hit in the face with a fucking brick repeatedly till they learn how to keep their fucking mouths shut.

It's just like any other disaster, most who aren't effected by it will donate or not give a crap and then move on. They pay for a service and enjoy it so they would like to see it back up. What else do you expect them to do? Also prayers don't help, donate instead.

Major Environmental Disaster > Video Games. I don't expect everyone to have a damn bleeding heart, but anyone criticizing them in the midst of this because it prevents them from playing a video game deserves to get steamrolled, imo. People pay for the service as long as it's provided, SE can shut the game down whenever the hell they please and stop charging for it (which is what they're doing, on a temporary basis), and they don't owe a single person a single moment of playtime beyond the point they stop charging for said service, whether it's temporary or permanent. Considering this, I feel absolutely zero sympathy for anyone who doesn't get to play their video game until they're ready to put it back online. What do I expect? A little understanding, and possibly some sympathy and compassion, as most people seem to have (especially those who have experienced environmental disasters themselves).

And we could debate the value of prayer, but I don't really care what your opinion of it is. However, not that it's any of your business, I've already donated as well.

Anybody upset with SE right now because they can't play XI/XIV, despite the circumstances surrounding their temporary shutdown, need to be unplugged anyway because I think it's pretty obvious they have a problem. That's my view of it, anyway.

Also, this is a dumb argument. I was somewhat angry in my last post, because I know what it's like both to be in the middle of an environmental disaster and to have family and friends in one elsewhere. But that doesn't change that people shouldn't complain that they can't play an online game based out of Japan when Japan is currently in the midst of a disaster. Expecting them to have "back up servers" of everything available in another country that they can just turn on is unreasonable. If they had localized regional servers, it would be different, but they don't and never have, and thus it should be something understood by people actually playing the game.

I like how in the first paragraph your response is FUCK YOUR OPINION HEATHEN. In the second you are letting us know "that's my view of it, anyway." So fuck someone elses opinion but everyone better listen to yours?

Also, people are really upset they can't play FF14? lol.

It was more that I don't feel like getting into an extended off-topic debate about religion, and whether or not prayer has value or not. I wasn't saying "Fuck your opinion", merely that our differing opinions regarding that specific part of the post were irrelevant and obvious and didn't need discussing. My not wanting to discuss the merit of prayer has absolutely nothing to do with trying to blanket his opinion as bullshit or laud my own. I could twist what he said around to make the exact same point you're trying to throw at me, that him saying "prayer doesn't help" is basically saying my own thoughts are worthless and his own much more valuable, but that wasn't my intention, it was just to disagree with that one part of what he said while not wanting to focus a ton of my attention on it.

I was initially just stating that I felt a personal desire to inflict pain in stupid people who were completely insensitive to the current circumstances because they can't play a damn video game. Then just clarifying why I thought there was a difference between being ambivalent regarding tragedy affecting other people, and actively having issue with the people experiencing said tragedy because it's impacting their ability to play a game.

I thought this was a good post that you made btw.

Oh, and also, I don't know that anybody is particularly angry about XIV or not. I was talking rhetorically about both XI and XIV, at first, in response to people referring to what was going on at the official forums without actually wanting to go there myself.

Apparently people were actually bitching on the official forums, lol. People either have really low standards for entertainment or are hopeless masochists.

I really hate the people who act like they care on the internet forums but do not donate or do anything to help the people in practice. Well, gee, thanks for saying you care (so much to spend a minute of your time writing a post on a forum), it really fucking helps.

Then there's these threads about using XIV subs to help the needy. What the fuck is this shit?

Yes SE is clearly a charity organisation!

Anyway don't be shocked if this takes a couple of months and in the end they don't bring up FFXIV's servers again.

I wouldn't go that far, but I could definitely see them leaving the servers down until ps3 launch. Which, completely aside from the recovery/energy conservation efforts, might be best for the development of the game.

Yes, not getting any feedback on the changes will definitely help them immensely.

In other news, hell freezes. SE donated 100 million yen to charity and set up some items to buy with Crysta... for charity purposes, or something. Wtf man.

Sixth letter of the producer is up in JP, who can guess what he might be talking about??

Google translate says there will be a delay of approximately two weeks in regards to patch 1.17.

Yeah he also mentions that the official names for Companies is now "Grand Company". <-- Name may not be correct - I'm going by Google translation.

It looks that while things have been delayed, they have no intentions of stopping just yet.
