    Possibly stupid Ipad question

I have torrented .pdfs of most of my textbooks on my laptop but have no idea how to transfer them to my ipad. I can't find a torrent program that works with the ipad either so I'm kind of at a loss. I know there has to be SOME way of getting my pdfs from point a to point b but I'm coming up blank.

Is there a really simple solution I'm missing due to retardation?

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

I have like, over a thousand dollars of not really legally downloaded textbooks. Not looking to just buy them in pdf form. Am I missing something?

that's the app that lets you read them, I don't think it would catch that it's torrented.

it says on the bottom you can read pdfs n' shit.

    Put PDFs on your bookshelf.

Organize your bookshelf by your collection of books. PDFs — user guides, business proposals, project plans — all go on your bookshelf, too. When someone emails you a PDF, open it in iBooks. Or sync the PDFs on your Mac or PC to your iPad in iTunes. Then go to your bookshelf and tap to open one.
I don't have an ipad but you should have gotten one of those computer connectors with it right? just load it onto the ipad and open it with the ibooks app

Oh I getcha. Just get Ibooks on both ipad and the laptop and load the pdfs on? Tricky tricky. I'll try it out, thanks.

The official Apple way to dump files onto the iPad is that apps that support the file will have a provision for transferring files onto the device. Usually this is from within iTunes, though I think GoodReader (at least) can pull PDFs and other files in other ways.

I assume you could also drop them onto it using an app that lets you browse the iPad filesystem, but I've only really done that with pictures, which had established folders.

ya it should work, at least that's basically what I do for my nook and I can't imagine it would be that different.

well worse case scenario is he would email them to himself then open it through the ipad (which is what that site says to do). it must know where to put pdf downloads directly from an email source.

I just throw all my PDFs on iDisk and use my moble me account to access them.

But of course if you dont have 3g iPad and moble me account...then nvm...

Costly, yes...but it works for me very well.

Apple is still about 10 years away from drag-and-drop technology, I see. Wonder what they'll name it when it's announced...

Oh, they have drag and drop. They just don't let you drag and drop just anything onto the device.

IE, if you install VLC, you get a little drag and drop window in iTunes to put files on the device for VLC (and watch it choke on anything not formatted for the iPad anyway). Same thing for Keynote presentations or whatever else.
The "Apple Way" is to have iTunes manage everything, so that Apple can dictate what may or may not get put on its magical device.

In theory, it keeps things secure. The flaw in that plan is that said device runs iOS, which is anything but.

Hi Sath, I dunno if you done it yet, but this is what I did.

    Install iBook first

Sync up your iPad with your machine.

The iBook folder should appear in iTunes on the left. Restart of iTunes and iPad might be needed

    Import PDFs.

    Sync!

Warning though, PDFs might not be read your desired way. I had a book that had to be read by scrolling horizontally as well, but that's on my phone. So I hope with the ipad it will fit across the screen.

Out of curiosity, what's a good website to get PDF's of your school books? Had no luck finding any of my texts on pirate bay or even legitly on the ibook store. I've been debating getting an iPad 2, but this just might push me over the edge into getting one, if it can also save me money on school books...

    Even easier

    Download Good reader (4.99)

That software lets you sync programs with your PC or MAC with WIFI or USB

So just transfer your Books threw WIFI from that APP and then you can read them NP without access to WIFI or 3g

You can even use that program to transform your IPAD into a kind of USB key

I'm not good to explain but Ibooks sucks Good Reader is fucking good for 5 bucks (YUou can even send or receive stock from Dropbox with GoodReader)

Some from Demonoid others just from judicious googling. Most of my texts are Physics and Math texts though which stay pretty identical (maybe just changed problem numbers) through editions which helps a lot if you can't find them exactly.

Actually downloaded files with 500+ physics and math reference books just as supplementary sources. Shit's awesome.

Also thanks for the easy instructions. Gonna try when home.

Yeah I've been doing some hard core googling for some torrents of one book in particular "AutoCad and Its Applications - 18th Edition 2011", which only showed up on a torrent site called Iced Downloads, and it requires a subscription fee. lol It's the only book I've tried so far, so could just be a hard to find book. Great idea about putting your school books onto an ipad though. Will definitely get one if I can find more of my books.

*edit* Demonoid had the most books, but its really hit or miss whether or not they have the books I need :X

    I prefer IBunko HD:

    http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ibunk...369111608?mt=8

Great for reading manga ;o As for pirated pdfs, I just use ibooks and sync with itunes.

Sorry, but I hate being a company shill but, since it wasn't mentioned, you can also use Apple's Pages app. Pages in OSX is Apple's document application. The Pages in iOS is slightly altered for touch-based interface but it's almost as capable as the desktop version. Not only is it capable of reading pdf docs, but it can create and edit them too. It's $10 though. Kind of expensive for an app but since it's made by Apple you know it will "just work."

It's not a security concern it's a UX concern. If they control what the average user is able to do, they can ultimately dictate the potential use cases.

I got QuickOffice HD or whatever it's called, 15$ app that has basically word/powerpoint/excel. I figured at some point i'll need the other over only word. It's a very basic document editor, but i belive it outputs to pdf as well, can do word 2003/2007, etc, underline/bold/italic etc the basic features. Price was a bit steep but none of the other note apps I could find even had bold or italic shit as an option.

ps: since ive got mine ive been using it in class, battery has held up WAY better than expected, easy to take notes with my BT keyboard, etc, and no more books, heavy laptops, etc.
