    [Q] Wireless Router Connection Issue - WRT160N V1

Greetings and salutations good members of BG,

I am having a crazy issue with my Linksys WRT160N V1 router that requires assistance.

    ISSUE:
Wireless access download speeds max around 1mbps. Uploads normal between 5-6mbps.

    HARDWARE:
    WRT160N Version 1 Router
    Vista PC
    Linksys WUSB300N Network Adapter

    BACKGROUND:
All started when I factory reset my router when I could not access the admin login yesterday. I reset the router and all wireless networks and set up again. After reconfiguring the router and network my download speeds are ridiculously slow. The issue is not the network adapter as I connected to my phone and had d/l speeds of 7mbps.

    What I have tried:
    - Updated firmware - Flashed 2 different times
    - Numerous 30/30/30 factory resets after reconfigs
    - Tested numerous channels
    - Tried all radio bands and variations (mixed, N only, 20mhz STD, 40mhz Wide)
    - Sacrificed a small goat

ANY and ALL help is greatly appreciated!

SHIT, SON, so I see you noted wireless download speeds; is it solely with wireless or is that the only way you have of testing it? Is your phone connected to the network or is it a cell network that you were just testing the network adapter with?

PC connected to router through adapter= 1mbps or less
PC connected to EVO 4g Wireless tether = 7mbps

I figured this would rule out the possibility that the adapter was the issue.

Sorry didn't notice the network adapter as being referenced as a separate product. Is the PC able to be connected to the router via ethernet or any other computer device for testing purposes? It probably wouldn't make a difference since I doubt it's wireless performance that is that dependably shitty, but just asking to rule out the fact that the download speeds could be poopin' regardless of how you connect to the router.

If that were the case the next logical step I can think of is to see if speed reverts to normal when the router is taken out of the equation (just for testing), assuming that's an option.

I'm currently hard wired to port 1 in the router and get around 20mbps. When I disable the ethernet connection, and enable wireless, the connection goes to shit with exception to upload speed!

Son of a bitch, lol. That makes things a little hazier as far as an obvious answer. HRRRRM. I'll let it cook for a bit while other posters have a chance to chime in on possible ideas. Good to know that the problem definitely lies somewhere between the router's wireless network and the network adapter, though. I'd be leaning towards some retarded and obscure setting in the router's config but I can't think of anything that'd make such an impact unless QoS was set up backwards, but the firmware flash and resets would've taken care of that.

Any chance the network adapter has any configurable options? Working properly with a separate network like that of your phone might not completely absolve of it blame.

Yes it does! Unfortunately, I have explored all configurations already. Tried auto/auto on router/adapter - 20mhz/20mhz - 40/40 etc etc. I even tried changing things that have ZERO effect. Ya know.... Just to see.

Yeah I can imagine so at this point, something affecting overall throughput sounds plausible but something just jerking your down-speed around while leaving upload intact is weird as balls.

Thanks for the help my friends! I will check this thread for a couple days before I just buy a new router and return this goat.

    Thanks!
