    Bypassing BIOS Password?

Is it possible to bypass the BIOS password? A friend asked me if I could remove their password on their laptop, at first I thought it was a windows password but it turns out it's a bios, so I can't boot from anything.

The laptop model is a Dell Inspiron 1525 series, I tried looking for backdoor passwords (people claim "Dell" works) but had no luck on any of them. I know about the cell battery thing to reset BIOS, but I'm against it since I need to remove a lot of stuff to get to it, and even then I heard that trick doesn't work for laptops.

So is there any chance of bypassing BIOS? Or is this laptop as good as dead?

You'll either need to use hacking software, or get in and remove the CMOS battery. Honestly, the battery is the easiest way to go.

But does removing the battery really work on a laptop? I've heard laptops are designed different where it's not that easy.

It's not easy but you can still do it on a laptop. Some laptops you may even have to resodder it to the board.

If your friend is the original owner, certain dell models do have a universal bios password that works but you have to call for it and be able to prove your the purchaser.

Cephius is right, your best bet is to do the CMOS battery. I don't know where people got the idea that "Dell" was some kind of universal password for Dell computers, but you will probably have to brave the innards of the laptop. Good Luck!!

No, Dell isn't the master override, it's different for every machine based on service tag. You can get the master override by calling Dell and proving that you are the registered owner of the machine.

because as other people stated, dell created a bypass that differs based on the service tag of the unit. Just as stated before, you have to prove you own it.

Why would they do that if you can flash whatever service tag you want into them?

Because you still have to prove you own it. Every time you buy a computer from dell, the service tag is part of the invoice with your name and address. If it doesn't match, they don't give you the override.
