Speeding ticket for 5 over by pace

Anyone have experience with defending yourself against speeding tickets by pace?

The state trooper came up through traffic a ways back and paced me for about 200-300 yards before he pulled me over. He said I passed him about two miles back before he pulled me over. The ticket was for going 65+ in a 60 by pace and is $93.

Is it even worth trying to contest the ticket?

Speeding kills. Killing is murder. You speed, so you are a murderer. And you want to get away with it? Fuck you.

wow, really? lol. you have THE worst luck. i was doing 80 on a 65 mph zone on i-95 and a cop cut me off going faster. and neither of us were in the HOV lane.

it's funny because i was talking about this today. since i got my license at 16, i was always under the assumption that 5 mph more/less wouldnt do any harm since vehicles aren't generally 100% accurate with the speeds, especially older ones. i generally wouldnt care and would just take traffic school and get it over with asap, but my friends at work love fighting it. i work at a law firm, so i guess there is a reason why my paralegal and lawyer bosses enjoy going to courts for it. they do it for the fun of it, lol. my boss chad has fought it over 3 times in 2010 and he said that the prosecuting officers never showed up to any of them and had them all dropped, even when he knew he was actually in the wrong. cops dont like going through depos i guess

It just depends, sometime the cop like to being a jerk. And besides that, I don't know about states here, many countries requires a certain quote for each cop. They had to give out a minimum amount of speeding ticket every month to meet the quota. OP probably just very unlucky

Here in MA it's $100 for every 10 mph over the speed limit. unless you speed through a construction zone, then it's doubled.

As for OP, only a 1/4 mile is needed to get a good estimate on pacing speed. He more than likely got enough distance to get a good estimate of your speed. So if you going to court, it would just be your word against his.

If you have a clean record, just play nice with the judge and you might get lucky. If you have traffic issues on your record, good luck.

Judge won't be nice since this is my third speeding ticket in five years or so. Was hoping someone had experience with getting pace speeding tickets dismissed based on technicalities.

Well for OP, when I went in for 15 miles over speed limit (by radar FYI), I got my speed lowered to 11 over and 2 points by the prosecutor, then to 5 over and no points from the judge. You might get off with next to nothing, especially since he didn't pull you over by radar.

Washington doesn't have a points system. Will suspend your license for a month for 4 violations in a year or 5 in two years though.

You can probably head to court and plea probation.

Is this kind of stupid shit makes me wish I still lived in Germany. Reasonable speed limits, no limits on the autobahn, and no stupid faggots wanting to confirm their existence by giving tickets to cars they can never afford.

In Illinois you petty much just get out of the ticket if you ask for a radar reading and they can't/dont give you one. They also throw out tickets if it's been awhile since they last calibrated their radar detector. At least they used to. It's been awhile since I last needed to get out of a speeding ticket. But of course, cops in my city wouldn't waste their time on someone going 5mph over the speed limit.

Just so you know, many car makers, not all, setup speedometers to actually be +/-5 MPH off your actual speed for safety reasons, the Germans are notorious for it, and it's usually + so you're always doing more than you actually are. Meanwhile patrol car speedo's are calibrated by laser to be as accurate as possible. Meaning if he paced you doing a certain speed, that's what you were doing and he'd just have to prove the car was calibrated which would be easy. Just pay the ticket, not much else you can do. Contesting the basis of him pacing you wont work.

There's way to contest pace speed tickets, its just technical and most sites seem to recommend having a lawyer do it if you go that route. Gonna get some of the free case reviews on monday and see if there is any chance of getting it dismissed, otherwise i'll just pay it.

Very unlucky, you got an overzealous cop. Because there's nothing more dangerous out there than the dude going 5 mph over the limit on a highway... owait!

You can either a) show up to court, hope the officer doesn't so you pretty much win by default but then you lose most of a day's work worth of money to save 93$. And if the cop does show up you're pretty darn screwed.
    or b) dill with it.

I'd pay it and be more careful aboot passing cops in that particular area in the future. As they have a tendency to show up in the same little chunk of road all the time.

Here in Illinois, anytime someone I know gets a speeding ticket, they always go to court cause if the cop doesn't show up, it's thrown out. If the cop does show up they bring up the last time the guns were collaborated. Though since he didn't get you with radar I guess the 2nd is out of the question.

Mass has a court filing fee, where if you fight the ticket you have to pay 25$ just to fight the ticket! I fight EVERY ticket, no matter if I am 100% guilty. I have had my license for 5 years, 5 speeding tickets and 2 red light runs. Paid for 1 of them, other 6 got dropped before court.

Edit: Paid and didn't get it on my record

I was going 120 in a 55 on the bypass going home about a month ago (not one person travels on that road at 2 AM in this area, inb4 you could've endangered a poor animal).

So I got pulled over, expected to get tow+jail. Cop comes back, tells me to "slow it down", shakes my hand, gives back my documentation, and lets me drive off.

Also didn't have my seatbelt on, nor did I attempt to ninja-put it on right before the cop pulled me over. Fuck you for reading this spoiler.
