So we had the excessively asshole cop that wants to do everything right and give speeding tickets for 5mph.

And now we have the asshole cop that just doesn't give a shit.

Don't tell me you really think 120 mph is actually a normal speed <.<

Similar story, I got hit for 92 in a 55. I told him I'd asked my girlfriend to marry me about half an hour prior, and she said yes, and rambled on some excuse about being distracted with trying to figure it out and the excitement of it and such, and he laughed and told me I didn't know what I was in for. He gave me a warning for "55+ in a 55", and told me to drive safe.

    I don't even have a girlfriend.

Yup, here in MA you file a $25 fee to see the clerk magistrate, and a trooper representing the state police (original trooper doesn't need to show up). If the magistrate sided against you, you have the option of just paying the fine or paying a $50 "service fee" to ho before a judge, in which the accusing trooper needs to attend.

    2 well-known aphorisms apply, here:

    - Dura lex, sed lex.
    - Cops are pricks.

Let's go with the second. Overzealous bitch that fines for 5 mph over the limit is a bitch.

What was your actual speed? Were you going a lot faster and he gave you a break and wrote a 65+? If so, don't go to court because the judge will just up it you try to fight it when the cop already gave you a break. If he popped you for 65ish, go to court and ask to go to traffic school and get it expunged. Even if they don't have traffic school the judge will probably cut it in half. Get your speedometer checked, if it's off the judge will probably let you off. Were you misbehaving on the road? WSP generally doesn't give a fuck unless you're doing 15+ over on I-5.

Not sure what my exact speed was, I felt like I was moving with traffic in that lane until I noticed his car right behind me and I obviously slowed down. The trooper never said anything about my speed or asked me how fast I was going. Just asked where are you going in such a hurry and I said home.

Been out of town so just now saw this.
    What the fuck!!!!
A ticket for 5 over? Does that happen? I have gotten many many tickets and have been told by multiple judges and cops they let anything under 10 over on the highway slide. I have been pulled over but not ticketed for going exactly 10 over in a residential area. You only get noticed if you're going 11+ over on highway. Perhaps a little stricter if they need to make quota for the month or just had an ex who drove your car.
If I need to be sure to get no ticket I drive exactly 9mph over. I only pass cops going 7 over though, not sure if that really does anything.

That might eventually hurt you, depending on who you encounter.

I know alot of troopers that will set their cruise control to the speed limit, and drive down the middle lane. They will then stop anyone who passes them, no idea how it holds up in court.

Request to see the cops vehicle speedometer calibration. If he doesn't have it the judge may dismiss the ticket due to lack of evidence, since he can't prove his speedometer was correct. You can also take your car to a shop and have the speedometer checked. If it shows as being off, you can present that at court and again the judge may dismiss it.

I have done both of these, as well as requesting to see the radar guns calibration form. The 6 times I have done it, I got out of the ticket 4 times. The other 2 were times the cop had the speedometer/radar gun forms.

    Good luck

Clearly if you've gotten 6 speeding tickets in recent history, they need to stop letting you off the hook.

Go to court. I was doing 95 in a 65 and the 1st Judge was very stern on giving me the ticket. He bumped it down to 80 mph and from 5 points to 2. As I was leaving a lawyer waiting told me to appeal the Judge's ruling and go for PBJ. I went to court again for the appeal and got off with a suspended fine, zero points and no traffic school. Good Luck!

55 miles over? 50 km/h over up in Canada gets you a roadside vehicle impoundment and license suspension, at minimum
