55 miles over? 50 km/h over up in Canada gets you a roadside vehicle impoundment and license suspension, at minimum

Ticket question... if I get a ticket, and my two options are to claim I didn't speed and get off clean, or to argue mitigating circumstances and get the fine reduced (which requires you admit that you did speed), which option is best? Is it possible to take the "I didn't speed" option and get it dropped if the judge is nice (e.g. never had a ticket before, wasn't going that fast, etc.)? If you take the "I sped, I'm sorry, please go easy on me" option, are you guaranteed to have to pay something (since you just admitted you sped) or can you get it dropped entirely still?

I got my first ticket ever a couple years ago for doing 35 in a 25 that I didn't realize was 25 (wasn't a school zone or neighborhood, it was a main thoroughfare with gas stations and stores and such that felt like a 35 mph street). I just opted for a deferral, even though it cost the same as the ticket but kept my record clean, but always wondered if I could have gotten it dropped without having to use my one deferral per 7 years.

Not that knowing everything would help much, as it all still mostly depends on what the judge depends.


if you claim you didn't speed, but you did and they have proof of it, obviously you won't get off. And if that happens, odds are the judge wont go easy on you.
Normal thing for a 1st ticket is to plead guilty, pay the ticket and go on court supervision (pretty sure you have to pay for this as well. can't remember how much though.) That'll clear your record.

I've had about four speeding tickets in the past 4ish years. All of them except for one have been going 20+ over the speed limit. Took everyone of them to my lawyer paid 300$ and he got every single one of them dismissed for "improper equipment" lol.

On a side note though. Had one cop pull me over and started asking about my car etc. Told me if I could beat him in a 1/4 mile he would let me go. I thought he was bullshitting until he told me to stop at the next green light and wait for it to turn red. Well needless to say we raced I beat him, he cuts back on his lights pull me back over and then we sat and chatted for about thirty minutes while he looked under my hood lol. Bestcopevar
