As evidenced by this thread, nearly everyone who knows what the fuck likes Helena more than Ayane but for most people who barely play the games, Kasumi and Ayane come to mind first because they are basically walking billboards for the series and that's why you get Ayane cameos in Ninja Gaiden, etc. (aside from the fact that most of the other DoA characters wouldn't make any sense there too)


And... also, I wasn't implying that Helena was the only one that could do the pole dance. I'm really not sure where you got that impression so I don't know what you mean when you say "Nice try though". Looks to me like you're reading things that aren't there.

shocked no one mentioned Aya Brea from the Parasite Eve series...obviously not a sex symbol like Lara Croft, but hot as hell in her own right. Suppose she's not as Iconic as some of the others mentioned here but that's where my list starts, at least.

You try to say Helena is where it's at cause she is classy yet can still be slutty as evidenced by the pole dance. Every DOA character can also be considered classy and slutty by the same rules. Plenty of other characters have elegant dresses (Lei-Fang's black gown from DOA3) or nice attire (Kasumi's skirt, blouse, and scarf comes to mind). I'm just saying, you can't really hold any one girl to either of those as a reason as to why she's better when the outfits and mini-games in the game pretty much apply to almost all of them.

And no, Ayane is not just popular for being the poster girl and nothing else. I've been playing the series since DOA1. Ayane isn't even really a playable character in DOA1. She's just the training mode dummy and you can unlock her eventually, but she really has nothing to do with the story. She's basically an unknown who, by the time DOA3 and DOA2 Ultimate rolled around, gained immense popularity even though she has pretty much nothing to do with any of the advertising with the game (If you recall, DOA3 was all about Kasumi's "high kicks", not Ayane.) She's just now getting more exposure than Kasumi in spin off games cause she's essentially over taken all the others.

When I used to try to play the game competitively (lolCompetitive DOA), there were actually groups called "The Ayane Amry" and "Ayane's Zealots." I didn't see any other character with those types of fan groups. She was also for a good long time one of, if not the most, used character on XBox Live, based on the game's global character usage. I could understand in DOA2 Ultimate cause she's insanely good in that game, but DOA4? Eh... it's just blatant fandom.

I'd give you points for saying "the reason Helena is underused is she's hard to use" (which is fair to say compared to someone like Tina, Kasumi, or Hitomi) but she's not nearly as hard to use as Ayane so that excuse also falls flat.

As for "people knowing what the fuck", there's still a few other people in the thread who agreed with me.

My point is, she's not the original poster girl...that was Kasumi, with maybe Lei-Fang & Tina on the side. Ayane pretty much forced her way into the poster girl position, winning out tons of fan polls and it pretty much forced Tecmo to shift their focus towards her. Hell, if Kasumi wasn't Itagaki's pride and joy, I'm sure she'd be out of the spotlight.

Oh wait, he left the company. Shattered Dimensions is coming out for 3DS soon and pretty much the only things I've seen for advertising are pictures of Ayane and Ryu, a Metroid inspired level, and pushing the costume DLC. Hardly any of the old school Kasumi advertising going on here...at least she's on the cover of the box!

To button mash with? Yeah she's easy to play. To use well with all the intricate back turned combos? Nah, not so easy. But let's be real here, DOA is not a hard game period. If I had to peg down an "Advanced" character, I'm going to say Ayane and Helena are the only hard ones. The only hard shit about someone like Ryu or Hayate is just command grabs, which aren't even really used in competitive play (well, some of Ryu's are).

You know Ayane was being marketed in DOA2 as a "new character" right? Helena was also advertised for the same game for being a new character (not the best picture I know but I can't find pictures of the old GamePro ads from back in the day). But whatever, we can argue this back and forth till we're both blue in the face. Ayane is probably my second least favorite of the DOA girls so to go this far out of the way for a point (not to mention getting off topic) is silly.

As for the debate on which DOA girl can "get low"... all of them can, DOAX2 has a predetermined pole dance routine (yes they ALL do the exact same movements up/down/around the pole, including the weird asymmetrical boob shake; not sure if they changed it in DOA Paradise). The only settings you have are to swap in whichever girl you wanna stare at, play with camera angles and either keep the same bikini or rotate between a selection.

As for which DOA girl is hottest... "different strokes for different folks", tho the consensus is, they all have delicious curves and kick high.
