    VHS/8MM/Etc to Digital

Looking to transfer some old tapes to digital (just to get it on a PC, not worried about the DVD end of it), and wanted to see if yall have done it before.

I could just buy one of those big hardware converters, but thats too expensive, so I was looking at those rca>usb dongles. Most of them have piss poor reviews at a brief glance, which worries me, so I was wondering if anyone has had experience doing this.

I used the Roxio VHS to DVD one that comes with a dongle. It worked alright. My old VHS tapes weren't super clear to begin with.

Analog to digital, especially on VHS. You're not going to get good quality in the first place. Especially with deterioration depending on how old the medium is.

Most dongle/USB kits start around 39.99 online for garbage quality. Higher up, the better you get.

Anyways look around in your region. Some shops will convert them for a price which is much better than buying some dongle for one time use and never putting it to work ever again. That is, unless the tapes are 15+ year old kiddie porn/vintage pornos.

If you look hard enough, you can find some Super VHS or VHS/DVD Combo kits that have Component out. Find a VIVO or some other kind of PCI/PCI-E card with Component in, and there you go... pretty much the cleanest (analog) signal you'll get from VHS to PC

Otherwise, find a regular VHS Player and a cheap TV Tuner Card or Dongle with RCA (Yellow/White, or Yellow/Red/White, or if you're lucky, S-Video/Red/White) and just hook it up
