    Anyone near Seattle?

I'll be living in Seattle/Redmond/Bellvue for the summer, from early June to late August.

As of right now it looks like I might be renting out an apartment with 2 other people in the U district, but on the off chance that doesn't pull through I'll most likely end up in Redmond.

Anyone live in/near the city that can help me come up with a laundry list of stuff to do/see/drink? I've heard the bar life is pretty excellent there, among other things. I have a lot of time to do basically whatever. (and on that note, if anyone is looking for someone to do activities with/hang out (no homo), holla)

I'm down in Gig Harbor (about 45 mins away) and don't go up there often, but you have to go to Dick's Drive-In at least once. Great burgers and shakes.

Lots of concert venues up there as well, so between the bars and those, your nightlife should be covered rather well.

There's the obvious stuff as well like Pike's Place, Seattle Center (Space Needle is there), EMP, Pacific Science Center (IMAX is there as well) & Sports.

Pretty much this, there's tons of amazing clubs in Seattle. The metal clubs (if you're into heavy metal lol) are pretty sick, clubs like Studio7 are a prime example. Also tons of primo Techno venues, all you have to do is google them pretty much. One of my fav DJs is going to be playing the Neumos in a lil bit (http://www.clubzone.com/events/34319...ntemoller-live) and I'd definitely suggest checking him out, very chill Trance.

Other then music yeah the art/culture scene. Pike's Place Market should be one of your first visits, can get lost in all the cool shops they have there. Many museums in the area but one of my favs is the Seattle Asian Art Museum (http://www.seattleartmuseum.org/). If you really like art, you could also come down to Tacoma and check out the Museum of Glass here (http://www.museumofglass.org/) and then stop into one of my fav restaurants nearly right across the street, Indochine (http://indochinedowntown.com/).

I haven't even scraped the surface for most of the art/food/music scenes so anyone feel free to add more :D.

Edit; Just noticed you're not here till June which fucks you over for Trentemoller, my point still stands though lol

Yea I won't be rolling up there till probably the beginning of June (internship at microsoft). I'm just getting into the whole club scene, went up to one in canada a while ago and was like where the fuck have I been all my life. I went to Pikes Place when I was interviewing a month ago and that was pretty epic - never seen a market like that. I'll probably go back there again just for lunch via free samples everyone gives out haha.

Try Serious Pie if you like gourmet/really unique pizza. Umi Sake House if you like sushi. I second Dick's, but just know its cash only. If you like good smaller bars and/or tapas let me know I can give you a decent list of places to try.

    Places to eat:

Pho Bac - Chinatown - Best fucking Pho in the Western Hemisphere. Go yourself and call me a liar.
    Musashi's - N. 45th Seattle - Chirashi

Serious Pie - I'll second that.
Mae Phim - Downtown Seattle, 94 Columbia St. Order the Shrimp Curry Noodle Soup (#27 iirc). Only go at lunch, and don't go to the wrong location.
Seattle Deli - Chinatown - Grilled pork Vietnamese Sandwich - go before 11:30 AM or forget it. Also, fight your way to the front, make eye contact, and call out your order. Otherwise the old ladies will just push you out of the way.
Hole in the Wall BBQ - Downtown - Real men like it hot and wet.
El Puerco Lloron - Downtown - Carne Asada y dos cervezas. Nap it off.

    Things to do:
    Hempfest Aug. 19-21
    Bumbershoot Labor Day weekend
Naked Bike ride sometime in July, always fun to watch.

Long list of shit to do here

If you like the beach, Alkai is close by, but is crowded as hell on weekends, Pacific beaches are several hours away, but you can find a nice stretch to hang with friends w/o others around fairly easily.

If you end up on Capitol Hill, enjoy your twice daily dose of crawl across the I-405 bridge. Consider taking the M$FT shuttle if you can.

Once you're bored of Seattle. Come to Vancouver, BC Canada. It's like Seattle but better.

    Awesome info. Thanks!

I plan on either carpooling with roomates or taking the bus regularly, so hopefully I'll be able to avoid that.

I live and work in Kirkland. If you are in Bellevue, I would recommend visiting the Taphouse - they have about 150 beers on tap including some hand crafted ones like Gulden Draak.
For food, I like Wasabi Bistro in Belltown (if you like sushi)
Piroshky Piroshky at the market (fucking nom)
For sandwiches - The Other Coast in Ballard (also Ballard is rad, lots of cool shops like Archie McPhee, and bars etc)
Finn MacCools in the U-District has some decent karaoke if you like that...
Annnnd other than that, if you want to get outdoors and see some cool shit, go hike Snoqualmie Falls.
edit for good christ: for breakfast, Beth's cafe, hands-down (near Greenlake)
Burgers: Red Mill in Ballard/Magnolia area (also, Dicks drive-in)
If you want a really good, expensive meal, go to Matt's in the Market. Best tenderloin I ever ate.

I live in the University District, you'll likely be walking distance from my house. I assume you'll be west of 15th, hope you aren't near Roosevelt and 41st.

As for food in Seattle, here are some of my suggestions:

    Microsoft internship?
Edit: I see you mentioned it in a follow up post. What group are you interning with?

Second the suggestion for Umi, I got some great sushi there, a little pricey but whatever it's sushi.

I hear the Kingdome is a hip place to hang out.

That 520 toll shit starts soon. So now it's going to be a parking lot and cost money.

There's some nifty underground thing. undergroundtour.com I don't get into town much, being in Pullman and all.

Could always go to the zoo!

    Things to do in Seattle:

    Get rained on
    Bitch about no sunshine
    Get rained on
    Watch clouds... all the time
    Get rained on
    Enjoy 2 weeks of Summer
    Get rained on
Scream at hours of your life stuck in traffic on I-5, I-405, I-90, and SR-520
    Get rained on
Fight moss, mildew, and mold that grows on EVERYTHING outside
    Get rained on
    Dodge falling trees
    Get rained on
Kick aggressive panhandlers in the face
    Get rained on

That should keep you busy for the duration of your stay. Enjoy.

Yeah the rain generally stops on July 5th.

EDIT: Fuck, we all forgot to mention brunch at Salty's.

Oh man, I have not been to Salty's in years but their Brunch was literally like the best one I had. Having a view of downtown was just a plus factor to it. I do recommend it.

Everything I could be saying has already been said but if you're willing to go far, head to Mt. Rainier. I love that place during the summer but it does get crowded with some idiotic tourists.

I experienced the aggressive panhandlers when I drove up there for the weekend (I live in Portland)...That was enough to make me want to carry a shock stick just to satisfy my rage by nailing them in the balls. Once you get over the panhandlers cornering you in doorways, street corners, parking lots, and anywhere else they can corner you, the downtown scene can be as cool as previously mentioned. Remember the weather is cool/cold all year round because of the cold pacific water. Summer is from July 5th to the end of August. Then it starts raining again Friday afternoon on Labor Day weekend and doesn't stop till July...rinse and repeat.
