Edit: I see you mentioned it in a follow up post. What group are you interning with?

Second the suggestion for Umi, I got some great sushi there, a little pricey but whatever it's sushi.
Office Lync (It's basically a corporate solution similar to Windows Live messenger with VoIP, etc)

Thanks for all the suggestions! bookmarking this shit.

You forgot the best part about living near Seattle. Head up to Aberdeen and check out the birthplace of Kurt Cobain. (arguably the best thing the area has ever produced)

Actually I was in Seattle in 94. It was months after his death though. Plus I was only like nine back then.

Lots of concert venues up there as well, so between the bars and those, your nightlife should be covered rather well.

There's the obvious stuff as well like Pike's Place, Seattle Center (Space Needle is there), EMP, Pacific Science Center (IMAX is there as well) & Sports.
Red Mill are better than Dicks, by a long shot. I can't stand Dick's, all hype no substance... I suppose if you like 8 gallons of mayo and thousand island on a quarter sized burger then Dick's is your cup of tea. Red Mill, by contrast, doesn't rely on a lame 50s theme, and is worth a drive from Everett.

Best steak house in town is the Metropolitan Grill... a little pricey, but absolutely *amazing*. Almost universally agreed upon as the best steak house on the west coast by folks who travel a lot. If you have an appetite, I heartily recommend the kobe long bone rib eye.

    Seconding Beth's Cafe for breakfast.

For stuff to do, I don't see the Museum of Flight mentioned yet; it's enjoyable if you're into planes and/or history. Seconding the Museum of Glass. The Bite of Seattle and Taste of Edmonds are both fun, if a bit carny-ish.

    Also: Hendrix > Cobain.

This thread is great. I've lived in Belltown for almost the last two years and I havent even heard of a bunch of these places.

Also, the Crab Pot if you like seafood that is dumped from a bucket right onto your table. I haven't ever been, but I hear its great.

I was born in Aberdeen lol
Might as well go to Ocean Shores too if you're driving that far, would have to make a trip of it but if you could stay there it's one of my favourite vacation spots. Love the 4th of July there, tons of Firework stalls in the area and some friends and I usually rent out a Town House near the beach :D.
Lake Cushman too if you're looking for more relaxation trips.

I like Ocean Shores, but don't stay for long. Everything closes at like 7pm except the bowling alley, there's not much nightlife except the casino and maybe some random tavern. Enjoy the (still cold) beach, pool in whatever hotel you stay at, and maybe the casino, and get out before you run out of things to do.

As for the 4th, I really enjoy the Lake Union display in Seattle. It's a $500k budget (I think) fireworks display, off a boat in the middle of the lake, with accompanying soundtrack, and anywhere you watch it from will have a good view (it's a big lake, with public parks and lesser known little nooks all around to hang out at). Gasworks Park is where the speakers (for the soundtrack) and all the concessions will be, but is also the most crowded. They don't let you take alcohol or pets in. But there's plenty of other areas around the lake that are more private and you can easily set up a lounge chair with a beer cooler and a pet if that's your thing. Couple years ago, I was on a strip of lawn along the lake, behind some parking lot of some business that was closed for the day, and some guy had a BBQ set up as well as his pickup backed in for a tailgate party. There was maybe 6 people total there (compared to a billion at the park, with not even standing room left by late afternoon).

On the other hand, Ocean Shores lets you drive on the beach, and can light your own fireworks there as well as have bonfires. But I've never been there for the 4th, so I don't know how that goes.

This is the main attraction I like about the 4th at Ocean Shores, it has a lot more freedom. It's so relaxing & tranquil being on the beach, at least to me. Granted if you went to a financed event you'd save tons of cash, but it's just become a ritual for a group of my friends. You are right about shit closing down early there though, so we'd usually just bring lots of entertainment for the rooms if we didn't want to hit up the beach at night :D.

Welcome to office, I work there too! I think they still give interns Prime Cards. USE IT! There's a ton of places you can get buy one get one meals in Seattle. I'd recommend Buenos Ares Grill, they have the most amazing steaks ever there.

BG Seattle, where we awkwardly share FFXI tales, eat seafood and get drunk. Sounds epic.

    Used to be a Seattlefag.

Crab Pot is fun since you get to eat your shit with just a wooden mallet and a board, but I didn't think the food was all that great, but the atmosphere was worth it. I'd suggest just going down the pier to Ivar's instead lol.

Got to also recommened the metorpolitan, that place is amazing.

Also check out the local breweries, I like pyramid and pike's.

go to ipanema grill, but go for dinner and make sure you come hungry. all you can eat brazilian steakhouse, good drinks too. don't eat lunch and make sure you don't fill up on the carb/salad bar before the servers start coming around with the meat.

I would not recommend the Met, unless you're willing to dress up and spend big bucks. I second the breweries, though.

Unless you get the kobe/wagyu beef, you're looking at about 10 bucks more than a chain steak house, and is cheaper than Ruth's Chris; where the Met starts to get expensive are the kobe/wagyu options, and the wine list (one of the best, if not the best, in Seattle). Their dessert liquor list is also extensive (and can get amazingly expensive). And the Met isn't quite jacket-and-tie, but yeah... jeans-and-tee-shirt won't cut it, either. With all of that said, it is still the best quality in town, by a long shot.
