The first one was/would of been good with modern cgi. I walked out of #2 because a friend I went with was feeling sick and I really didn't mind. 3 was better than 2 but still garbage. 4 was the best since 1 but still felt cheap. I'll see 5 but my expectations are 0...

Resident Evil: Retribution is scheduled to begin filming this October. Bloody Disgusting reports that Alice, our favorite zombie killer, will shoot on location in both Toronto and Japan. Milla Jovovich is not confirmed to reprise her role, but I doubt the film would be any good without her. Paul W.S. Anderson is currently working on a script, so he could likely direct.

Sienna Guillory (who plays Jill Valentine in the franchise) is the only cast member confirmed to return. There are not any plot details available to report at this time, but I am sure there will be tons of action and cool eye candy on screen. Sony Screen Gems is planning to release the film in theaters on September 14, 2012.

I want Paul W.S. Anderson to stop making movies. Who cares about RE... not like it's ever had good writing. His movies are insulting just as movies.

I loved the movies... good god some people are just so hard to please. I wouldn't want it following the games exactly either.

Talking with MCV, longtime Mortal Kombat movie director Paul W.S. Anderson dropped knowledge about the troubles involved with making game movies, as well as establishing his own gamer cred. As he relates, his idea to make a Resident Evil movie came from a month-long game binge.

“I disappeared into my apartment in Hollywood and no one saw me for about four weeks. I emerged, and this is a true story, with a rather long beard and wild staring, crazy, bloodshot eyes. What had happened is that I had played Resident Evil 1,2 and 3 back-to-back, and it took me three to four weeks to get through them all. That was it. I had become obsessed with them,” Anderson said. “I called my producing partner Jeremy Bolt and said we have to turn this into a movie.”

At the time, zombies weren’t such a hot property like they are now. From playing the game, Anderson had a feeling that they would soon blow up, and that they could be on the cutting edge of that movement. That’s not the only time that games have spotted a trend before they’ve hit mainstream, either.

“The game was tapping into that already, quite often I feel that the world of video games is ahead of the world of feature films,” Anderson said. “It’s like video game manufacturers have their fingers on the pulse of modern culture a little better than filmmakers do.”

Of course, the Resident Evil movies diverge quite a bit from their game counterparts. Anderson is often asked by fans why he simply didn’t do a straight movie version of the game, and he responds by saying that there would be zero tension if he did.

“Imagine before you sit down to watch Alien, you know exactly which characters will die, how they will die and in what order. Some hardcore fans say to me ‘Why don’t you do a direct adaptation of the video game,’ well that is the reason why. Because it is not going to be surprising, it is not going to be shocking, a direct adaptation is not going to make me leap out of my seat when the dog jumps through the window, because I know it is coming,” Anderson said. “So we are trying to tell a fresh story so we can take people by surprise and give them the shocks and thrills you come to the cinema for.”

It took him that many weeks to play those three games back to back? He fails as a director and a gamer...

Why would you see a shitty film and then go see its sequel just in case it got better? Like an abused girlfriend.

Because his past RE movies have taken me by huge surprise...I didn't know at all who was going to die or that the main character in the 1st one had a part in what happened.. I mean shit, it's a zombie action movie. It's not some amazing piece of twisting narrative that keeps you on the edge of your seat. And a dog fucking jumping through the window in RE1 STILL makes me jump a little.

People like the story, because it's a good story. We don't like it when some fuckwad takes a good story and goes "HUR DUR I RITE DIS OVER AND MAEK BETTUR" and then it comes out as second degree shit. @Paul Anderson: People don't want to see a movie with a story by you..because you FUCKING SUCK AT WRITING.

"Resident Evil" and "good story" shouldn't be used in the same sentence. Take off the nostalgia goggles. The movies took a mediocre story and made it terrible.

I dunno, I quite liked Resident Evil 4's "story". But it could just be because i liked the game a lot. though, The President's daughter/ Could use some rewriting lol.

For the record, I found the resident Evil movies a bit entertaining, however #2 felt less about zombies and more about super-freaks killing eachother, almost didn't feel like RE.

3 was good, IDK how 4 will be, But i'll likely see it if my brother does.

I always felt like RE's zombies were just kind of to get the ball rolling and make things a little tougher to get through, kind of like WoW raid trash. It was really the superfreaks that drove the story. I mean fuck, you can shoot the zombies in the FOOT 3 times and they die...

Maybe that's why I'm apparently the only person in the world that liked the 2nd movie.
