Something like this could be REALLY simple to throw together in Maya. If you don't need a whole environment around the paintings and just want a simple hallway I could make something like that in a day. (just commenting on the model part) Not sure how you would set up the interactivity and stuff after that but as someone suggested putting it Unreal or Unity would work.

    what are you looking for?

Edit: If you don't need anything super fancy modeling wise I wouldn't even bother with a 3d modeling software I would just go directly into adobe AfterEffects cs5 and import your images then turn them into 3d layers then rotate them away from the camera space them out then animate the camera flying through them pausing at each one. Would be the easiest way to do it and really requires no knowledge of 3d to create. It also allows you to do more fancy stuff with fade in fade out and add the music and all that stuff.

You could also do this in flash AND have some interactivity. There's many ways to crack an audio visual egg.

I kept seeing this thread being bumped. Based on the title I figured it was a startup company looking for employees. Wow was I off.

I can give you a little perspective on this, since I've done a chunk of work writing my own 3d game engine. Writing a 3d engine from the ground up for something like a virtual tour is a huge chunk of work. That's all my 3d game turned out to be, since I never finished it (much like the hundreds of thousands of other people who went to write a 3d game and abandoned it.)

You have to incorporate tons of code just to get a blank slate, then load in your models, create an avatar (no, not Aang) if necessary, render everything from the perspective of the avatar or 1st person, collision detection (wouldn't be a very good tour if people could just walk through all your walls and objects), if the floor has any kind of elevation changes you have to adjust the camera or avatar for that, handle loss of the device, maintain a decent framerate, and the list goes on and on and on and on and on (giggity giggity giggty!) This doesn't even address using Maya or Max. If you have pre-existing objects that you find to scale and place in your 3d world it will cut down on time, but even so it will take a while to make something look pretty.

I spent a few months just messing around with mine, and all I wound up with was a placeholder avatar running around terrain with elevation changes. Was still an accomplishment of sorts. That being said, if someone asked me to do it again, and offered me $75, I would stare at them like they were crazy. Because in reality that is a crazy offer.

If you can find an engine out there ready to render objects produced by Maya or Max that will be your best bet. It's going to cost you more than $75 though, I am almost positive on that. I could be wrong though, as I haven't done any work like this in 8+ years. Google around and see what you find. Good luck!

I wouldn't even begin to bother wasting my time writing my own 3d engine just for this one little project. Go to www.unity.com download the unity engine for free, use a 3d modeling program to make your models use gimp to make your textures for free, import said models and textures into unity create your camera animations, film, done.

Or you could do the whole thing in said 3d modeling program, or you could use AfterEffects, or you could use flash, or you could use etc. There are a million different ways to do this depending on how detailed you want it to be and what programs you have access to.

Remember you are not doing this for a real time exploration of an environment you are making a pre-rendered movie that makes it so much more simple.

Fhq the unity engine is available for free on their website and is one of the more robust and popular 3d engines on the market today. It will do exactly what he wants very easily and simple. It interfaces with all the major modeling programs nicely and can use their native formats or FBX. You only have to pay for the engine if you want to start making money on whatever you make.

PM me if you still need help with this OP and I might be able to assist you if I have more details on what your project on what you want it to do and how you want it to look.

Thanks! Gonna try messing around with this later tonight/tomorrow afternoon for awhile to see if I can the jist of it. Doesn't seem like it'll be to hard from what you're saying.

Nice, good to see there's something out there for people to pick up and run with.
