More anecdotes, but I've only been hit twice in my life. I remember those times vividly. Once when I swore at my mother (I told her to fuck off) and once when I absolutely refused to pick up my wet towel after having a shower.

What did I learn? To not swear at my parents and to pick dirty shit up off the floor. To this day, I'll live by those rules (I'm 23 now, and haven't sworn at or in front of my parents since). I was disciplined generally like most would expect. If I was bad I was sent to my room, when I crawled out to apologize my parents would explain why I was sent to my room and what I did bad (this was before everyone had a TV and xbawk in their room). Did I resent my parents at the time for punishing me? Of course, but you don't need to be hit to resent punishment - it's just a natural part of growing up. Kids resent their parents at one time or another, sometimes for no reason. Raising your kid in a way to avoid them resenting you is an awful idea. They need to learn to respect you and see you as a parent first. Only when the kid is grown up can you be "friends".

My brother and I resent our parents, but my sister doesnt. Now guess who got beat on and who didnt. Shit is different based on the amount of beatings. Funny story, we asked to be put into martial arts, and they could no longer hit us, because we blocked everything. One time i came home drunk, and my mom slapped me when i got home at 3am, but i couldnt feel the slap. So the next morning she asked how i was feeling leaned like she was going to hug me, and instead she decked me. I asked WTF was that for, she said since i couldnt feel it ladt night, she did it again when i could feel it. To make things worse, she wore more jewery than Mr T. LOL

My mom used a full gallon of milk as brass knuckles once. She pu?ched my brother in the face because he slept in his clothes. When she hit him, the top popped off, and milk shot out like a volcano erupting. The gallon had an imprint of his face on it. He was 10 years old, when that happend.

Since my Grandpa was an Orphan, my mom's side of the family is kinda unknown, she says she is Native American/Italian/Spanish, Dad is Hispanic/German, and Stepdad is Jewish.

And yes, my mom is clinically certified insane, Bi-polar, multiple personality, that is actually not as bad nowadays. She "found" god and is a huge jesus freak that doesnt remember half of the shit she did to us.

When I got too big for my mom to hit me (she's like 5'6, 130 pounds, I was approaching 6'0, 225lbs), she'd just start throwing shit when she got mad. Plates, phones, pans, shoes, tv remotes, porcelain coasters, you name it lol. That was always fun explaining to my dad why we were cleaning up broken shit all the time he came home from work lol....
