Just got my Acer 4k and will be returning it on Sunday. Granted it's a TN panel but the color and bright is terrible compared to my Qnix. I'm sticking with 1440p and may get a 34" 21:9 when they drop more in price.

Depends what you play.

I'd rather get a 21:9 for most games, 4k if you play DX9 games, and 144hz for FPS games.

I'd recommend 34" 21:9 then.

I rolled the dice because it's a no questions asked local return policy. Otherwise I wouldn't have tried. I just don't think 4k is worth the money at this point since you need so much horsepower. I agree with you about a 34" 21:9 probably being the sweet spot. I'll be looking for that once it lowers in price.

Lots of cores. Lots of Mem. GPU is a beast but cooling system will need to be on point. Add another SSD for Raid 0 (because why the hell not).

I dunno. What are you really looking for? Everything is pretty compatible.

Building a new PC in the coming weeks and have an OS question: Can I use an old (used) Windows 7 disk and use the free upgrade to windows 10 to legitimise it? The money saved will be helpful in getting a better gpu for my budget so I'm interested in saving where I can.

It's not about the disc you use, it's about the product key. Assuming you're using those two terms interchangeably, yes, you can "legitimize" your install by upgrading it to Windows 10, though obviously it's not strictly a legal copy.

I have a 970 and it's great. I haven't bumped into anything I can't play at max or near-max settings at 1440p.

970s recently have been as low as $250. $300 is pretty much msrp and not a deal at all. Best bang for your buck is a R9 390 8gb.

Nope. Zero movement is the best movement. Check the cpu locks (and don't be like me and put things upside down) and etc.

I'm assuming you're using the stock cooler? If so they definitely can be loose. Plus, they can be loud. If you can grab an aftermarket such as a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus/Evo or something similar. Most can be found as low as $9 after rebate to around $20. Definitely worth the investment.

Um, no. If it's loose, it's not seated right. Assuming stock cooler, just check and make sure the cooler is seated the entire way and keep it steady as you push down on the four corner pins. Then twist them to lock them in place. Then rock the cooler gently, if there's still movement, then it's still not mounted right.
