Not really a build question, more hardware related and this seems the place to ask.

I recently upgraded to a 2500k and an EVGA reference 670. At first it seemed fine, didn't notice too many problems. But... over the past few weeks I've been attempting to root out the cause of one gigantic, glaring issue: every single game I play is for some reason host to incredible aliasing problems.

It doesn't matter what resolution I play at or how high I stick the AA up to, it's still prevalent, mostly on small things like hanging rope, cables, if something has ornamentation or a lot of little creases and bumps and stuff that's all aliased (standing stones in skyrim, armor in tera, etc.). I play at 1920x1200 in most every game, if I go windowed I go down to 1680x1050, and rarely I dial it down to 1920x1080 or 1680x1050 in fullscreen too, I've tried FXAA, MSAA 2x~16xQ, I've even tried SSAA in games that support it, but the aliasing remains.

My eyes just may be going, but I'm almost positive that my old 480 did not have this happening, and I am absolutely certain that I didn't have immense aliasing all over the place in Skyrim, XI, and TERA no matter how high I set AA (or in the case of XI, supersampled). Is this an issue with Kepler GPUs? Is my card possibly bad? I've tweaked every setting possible in hopes of fixing it, but no dice. I can say that I think that I noticed it get worse after I used Skyrim's FXAA injector, uninstalled it, and tried ENBSeries... but those are just DX9 injectors... that wouldn't cause problems surely.

tl;dr do Kepler GPUs have issues with antialiasing/rendering massive amounts of aliasing, or is my card bad

I am trying to build my first PC and I have run into something else that I cannot figure out on my own. Can someone Help me out by explaining to me the difference between these two video cards ? I am definitely still learning when it comes to this stuff. I would guess 4 GB is better than 2 GB when it comes to these cards, but that is only an assumption. It being only $50.00 different makes me wonder however.

    EVGA 04G-P4-2673-KR GeForce GTX 670 Superclocked+ w/Backplate 4GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card $459.99

EVGA 02G-P4-2678-KR GeForce GTX 670 FTW 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card $409.99

Unless you're gaming on 3 1600p monitors, i'm pretty sure you don't need 4 gb of vram.

I think there are some very limit instances where it can be useful, like some Skyrim mods. I think BF3 on very high settings on a single 30" can make use of it too.

    Hey guys,

My memory finally arrived today so I proceeded to install everything and boot up for the first time. Unfortunately, the system won't POST or enter BIOS. I get no beeps from the motherboard, just a red light. My build specifications are as follows:

    CPU: Intel Core i7-3930K 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor
    CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D14 SE2011
Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth X79 ATX LGA2011
    Memory: Corsair Vengeance LP 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
SSD: Corsair Force Series GT 180GB 2.5" Solid State Disk
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 680 2GB
Case: Corsair Vengeance C70 (White) ATX Mid Tower Case
    Power Supply: Corsair 850W ATX12V / EPS12V

Any help to diagnose, or solve the problem would be greatly appreciated. I can provide pictures of the computer upon request.

    Thanks!

One of my mistakes right off the bat was just plugging in the 24 pin and forgetting about the ATX 12V (which was hidden behind the massive CPU cooler). Are you sure you have everything correctly plugged in? Also, nothing turns on at all? No fans?

It seems like all the fans/gpu/hdd are getting power, I hear them start up. Should I just start unplugged things until i get it to POST?

Did you plug the display directly into the gpu or motherboard? Try mobo if you don't have it connected to that.

Problem solved. Hit the MEM test button on the mobo, fixed the issue. Might have been the stock RAM timing. Thanks though.

Ordered a Dell U3011 monitor. My computer is 3-4 years old and won't support 2560x1600 so I need to buy at least a video card. I don't play any modern games, so would a Radeon 7750 be enough? It seems to be the fastest fanless video card on the market, and I really value silence.

HD 7750 would work as it has DP

Maybe looking to upgrade my video card in the near future. Any semi cheap (200-300) cards around that would beat a HD 5870 1GB?

    Edit: Full specs are i7 930 @ 2.8, 6gb RAM, HD 5870

HD 7850 for $220-250 or 660Ti for $300 (haven't seen how it compares though)

Microcenter sells processors for discount as we all know. This deal says you can get an extra $50 off when buying an i5 3570k or i7 2700k with a motherboard. That is a killer sale.
It is their august sales ad so should be good all month.

So I'm building a PC again for the first time in a few years, and I have a GPU question. A co-worker wants to sell me his XFX ATI Radeon 5850 HD for probably around 80 bucks, is it worth it? I'm looking to run FFXIV 2.0 at pretty decent settings, typically just dual-box FFXI at the moment. I've done some looking around and it seems like the 7850 is around $200, how much of a difference is there for what I'm looking to run?
