I seriously freaking love Yoshida. Everything he says is like a golden shower of straightforwardness and practicality. All hail.

I concede.
Its called wanting the UI to be caught up to the rest of the MMO world. Shit that's been around as the golden standard since fucking 2005. Sorry you disagree, but that's why FFXIV is your game, Mioko. Its just for people of your particular type. I guess I'd hate seeing the game changing if I was in your shoes - if I had your mindset - as well.
lol? Holy shit you can be a presumptuous douche.
The game as a whole is in shambles. Now back the fuck up a few steps from this whole "omg you think such an insignificant UI addition isn't the greatest idea at the moment, you are a purist" shit and tell me why a real life clock would indeed be a great use of their time "right now." That's what I'm talking about. You don't agree that there's a lot more important tasks for them than a fucking clock that, itself, is not going to magically "catch the game up to the rest of the MMO world"?
"This building is cracked, unsafe, crooked, structurally shaky. I know! Let's head to the store right now just to buy and put on a nice set of address numbers so it looks something like the rest of the buildings on the block"
I think this game would make for a fantastic clock.
They're*
...and they are not actually "using development time on stuff I don't care about" yet. I am just amazed that people can bitch enough for a clock when there's a plethora of much more important things that need all the attention they can get.
I'm sorry you can't wrap your head around the idea that such a thing is currently incredibly unimportant in the scope of the game as a whole.
No one was bitching here, it was you who jumped in with a flaming sword just at the mention that people would want this added.
half of you don't even play this game so why commit on it? you guys need to go back to the clown festival you shot out of.
You guys are the definition of a joke![]()
I think though, miokomioko, in that stating something like "there are better ways to utilize their development time" concedes the fact that SE can't add even menial shit like a clock in a typical amount of development time. Think about it--if you had the source code for the client and understood it because you worked on it/coded it to begin with, you could implement this in about five minutes and throw it into a patch.
I am not sure that people are necessarily "bitching" about the lack of clock. Seems to me like we're all just dumbfounded as to why yet another standard feature isn't included. SE clearly does not value time though, as we know they pushed a crappy game onto the shelves and are now taking as much time as they need to fix their broken game, constantly asking us to "please be patient". I think that's the point we may be trying to make.
Yeah... let's not even get started on you, buddy.
If it's not a 5min job, they should be working on making it so it can be a 5min job. And I think that's what they're attempting to do.
"Why do they call them Crystal Tools?"
"Because every time you try to use them something gets broken."
Spoiler: show
Tanaka: Welcome to TGS 2005, Today we will reveal a revolutionary step in future gaming! We call it, crystal tools!"
*Guile theme starts playing*
*Camera zooms in on the display screen showing demo*
*Sage Sundi and Tanaka put on moogle caps and start dancing.*
So I agree that things like adding a clock should be a trivial fix, and there's no reason they can't just get hucked into a patch (aside from lolCrystal Tools).
That being said, I am willing to be patient with Yoshida, as he's had less than a year to try to turn around an unplayably bad game, and seems to be taking the time to do it right, rather than just throw some quick fixes together and wind up with something that looks good from 20 feet away but is utter crap up close.
I get the distinct impression that the dev team is very small despite SE's position of throwing resources at the problem until it's solved, and/or that a disproportionate percentage of the team is on the creative side of the house rather than code monkeys. If either/both happen to be true, i would hope that Yoshida has the ability to hire/fire/reorganize to fix the situation, but with SE's upper mismanagement, I am not as confident in that as I'd like to be.
I am cautiously optimistic that Yoshida will get the game turned around, but they really do need to step it up. Being able to get simple, throwaway improvements done in a timely fashion would be a good sign, but then again, if they do follow through on their stated desire to completely overhaul the UI, I can understand the reluctance to take the time to make changes now that will be irrelevant in the near-ish future.
They're working on it anyway; they might as well work on as many things as possible; shit like this would realistically take 5 minutes of coding (on any other standard-fare modern day MMORPG engine) to do. Hyan's got the right idea; get it out of the way and get it done; why not churn out the quick fixes... you know... quickly, eh? I know you don't want to see anything change, Mioko, but until you start paying SE for all the other gamers that ran for the hills after playing this game, I think they're doing the right thing in trying to churn out as many fixes and modifications as they can.
Have you actually become worse at this over time? Seriously?
