People cling on the "what-ifs" and the desire to always be ahead of the curve or at least some where in the lead. If you hate the game, stop playing it and go try something else. Jump in with both feet first and find something fun to play.
I'm not even sure you can get ahead in this game like people thought. Lots of battle classes at 50? Abilities will be more class/job specific soon (good thing however). Lots of crafting classes at 50? Crafting soon to be made easier. Gil being useless also takes away that advantage. Lots of gil? Again, useless.
I think I'll just continue barely playing until 1.18. Right now I'm pretty much just doing my crafting leves and idling the rest of the time.
I think SE would have done themselves better by shutting the servers down back in January for a year. People would have had more to look forward to instead of seeing small changes every month and getting bored again. Sure you can argue that you don't have to play but that hasn't happened. Most people quitting will be gone forever.
Is getting ahead the reason you're playing? Seriously there's a crapload of great games that are dirt cheap at the moment this gen, go buy one and wait and see if they make something out of FFXIV. Maybe I should expect this level of emo from a guy named Sephiroth but god you're a broken record.
Gotta have an influx of newbs constantly coming into the "game" to realistically get ahead and lets be honest, it could be a year + before PS3 version comes out and even by then, will enough people dive into FF14 on PS3? I think some people will, but not the amount SE is expecting to.
Lets assume FF14 survives until the PS3 version releases, the newbs who come in are going to find themselves in the same exact position as the NA's did when we got FFXI a year and a half later where everything was controlled by the Japanese crafters making it a frustrating experience for newbs. Gil is going to be a cool thing to have eventually once they get around to putting gilsinks and shit in etc.
I never wanted to slog through a shitty game just to feel like I'm "better" than some new rookie that just joined. That's what skill is for. You play a FPS for 5 years and then some rookie picks it up over the weekend and you rape his face again and again to show him that you're better. Same deal with a fighting game. I don't feel the same "satisfaction" from that - if you could even call it that - from a MMO. I want more people playing, period, regardless of how far "ahead" I am in front of them.
I'm sure a lot of that just comes from how XI's economy worked, Sepiroth. You're probably terrified that XIV is going to follow the exact same - or at least similiar - footsteps of XI, so you want to make sure you're prepared so you can make a massive mint off of explo- err... "assisting" rookies with their new purchases. I'd like to tell you not to worry and that the game isn't going to end up the same, with all of us NA/EU looking way, WAY up at the JP players that got a head start, but if that's the only reason you've been playing the game all this time, then that's kinda sad. What happens if they shut down the servers? What was all that effort for, then?
Just try to have some fun, man. If you aren't having fun, then you should leave for awhile and come back. It sounds silly to get that bent out of shape not because the game isn't actually a good game, but only because nobody new is there for your to peddle your wares to because of the fact that the game is not a good game.
You sound like Gheed from Diablo II right now, if he could have logged onto some forums once he visited the Rogue Encampment.
A game without an economy isn't much of a game though. If you can't sell things there's no point producing them, which eliminates the need for 11 classes. That leaves you with battle classes to play. Not everyone wants to rank up all battle classes. I'm pretty much done with current battle classes with my ARC, CON and THM at 50. I may rank up another DoW depending on which jobs they get but that's months away. So without a class worth ranking up and no economy to play with what's left right now?
Until 1.2 I'm probably going to just not play much. The dungeons will of course be fun if people can be convinced to do the 25 dungeon at rank 30 rather than 50 otherwise only one will be fun. Those will be worth logging in for. Local leves too to slowly rank up more crafts (no real need to grind them any more as economy is dead). But until 1.2 the game has nothing else to offer to me. Even then it might still not if people don't return until PS3 release and we're still running the same dungeons every day.
The game desperately needs players, they don't even have to be new players. It's time for server merges. An MMO without players can never be fun no matter what changes SE bring.
I don't think populations will be ever really be significant enough until PS3 launch... assuming things improve enough to warrant it. I'm sure that's what they're hoping for as well. They are probably counting on it being their "2nd chance at a 1st impression."
However, I just don't understand the playing a game you're not actually having fun playing. I enjoy what very little I play of it a few days out of the week (mostly for quests), but at least I'm aware that I would be bored out of my skull if I had made the solid effort towards multiple 50s... or even one for that matter. I'm not trying to frustrate myself.
Absolutely... if I wanna do something I hate and takes up hours of my time just so I can say I'm "better" than someone, then why not go get another part-time job that actually pays, rather than force yourself through one that doesn't? Playing to be "better" than others is turning the game into a job, and that's just silly, no matter which way you paint it.
I'd be so interested in hearing how the 1.18 has affected the overall dev process. The QA team is busy and the programmers fixing the bugs as well but that doesn't mean the whole development process is centered around this patch. They aren't going to start working on everything related to 1.19 only after 1.18 is out, that was the whole point of stalling the patches for half a year in the first place- to get the overhauls out of the door in a quick succession after being prepared and tested on the internal build.
Basically I think the QA team's efforts will determine the speed at which the patches come out at this point. But that's just a guess at this point.
I hope they release the new patch soon D: And I think a big mistake were the high requirements. Many people played ffxi on "old" pcs, xbox 360 or even ps2, not everyone has a "good/new" pc and they wont buy a new pc for ffxiv. Would it not have been possible to give a option to set the graphics down to something like ffxi (lol) for older pc and the nice hq graphics for the people with newer pc? Well idk if that would help but i know many people who would buy ffxiv even if it sucks just to test it if their pc could run it

I have been using this windower since launch, works great, and I have not had any problems.
