Performance got worse with crossfire hacks but I haven't played XIV in about six months so maybe some new drivers have made it better.

The only hack I use is to make SLI work on my mobo, as it's not officially supported. The game has to be in full screen mode, and use the newest drivers. I'm using an nVidia beta driver right now and SLI works perfect in most games, and about 90% scaling in a few Dx9 games. FFXIV is Dx9 if anyone didn't know.

the PS3 doesn't use dx at all so thats a SE is retarded limitation not a PS3 limitation.
This terminology is killing things.
CrossFire = AMD's multicard solution
SLI = NVIDIA's multicard solution
SLI works in windowed mode. CrossFire is full-screen only. Xopher's got CrossFire.
That said, SLI still blows in this game. Running XIV in SLI just generates more heat, it doesn't do much beyond that. AO still makes the whole thing come crashing down.
I wish they'd admit that any limitations are simply through their own engine design, this time around. The PC is a powerful device; Crysis taught us that eons ago, yet a brand new game can't even utilize DX10 tech that AoC had 3-4 years earlier. Honestly, the game doesn't even need the tech - it looks great with or without it - but its another factor of annoyance for a product that should have hit the ground running, what with all of the time spent working on it.
It wasn't even like this was some Duke Nukem Forever fiasco; if there were any sordid tales of the product being started and stopped and worked on by multiple companies, we've never heard of them. Most likely it simply sounds like they used the XI code as a "major" foundation for this new graphics engine (you can't even call it a new physics engine or anything, because the actual physics are quite limited) and are running into the same problems with it that they ran into with XI's engine.
That's 2/2 times that SE has had an extremely hard time making any modifications to their "own" system of their "own" design. It just makes you think that maybe they aren't all that good at this PC thing.
Which was bought by S-E so it makes even more sense D:
A better example is Last Remnant where they proved they can't make a good PC game even with the unreal engine.
TLR could've been better but I'd say it was good enough. Not on xbawx though.
Eidos is pretty good with PC's I thought? D:Which was bought by S-E so it makes even more sense D:
They're only recently doing internal development. Historically Eidos was simply a publisher.
As an owner of FF7PC, I would venture to guess that SE did the actual development but mostly let Eidos handle the marketing/distribution, so that i could fit in with all those fancy trapezoid boxes Eidos was so enamored with back then. Eidos' other games of the time generally advertised specific studios/developers working on them, and Eidos was simply a publisher. Tomb Raider and CORE. Thief and Looking Glass.
FFVIII had no evidence of any third party assisting with development, and I know the FFIX port they were working on was being done internally before it got canned.
There was also a community interview with Yoshi-P, I'll post that next.
This seems like a good spot to drop some information that we recently heard from Yoshida... He mentioned that the dev. team is currently thinking about two different approaches.
The first is pet-related content where players can raise chocobos and other mounts that anyone can ride. The second idea is centered around pets that can only be utilized by specific jobs.
However, we won't be picking just one concept to implement. Instead we will be looking into the specifications so that we can implement both. However, as we are not yet at the stage where we can disclose when the implementation timing will be. We hope that the current chocobo implementation planned for 1.19 will hold you all over in the meantime.I want to clarify a few things; While I can't disclose the number of instances that are created at the same time, I can assure you it is not a system where only one instance is available at a time. So if a group is already tackling the The Dzemael Darkhold raid, other groups can still enter their own instanced version of it. There won't be multiple parties inside of an instance, either. Your parties' raid is exclusive to your group only. We look forward to your comments and discussion once you all have had a chance to try the raids out when patch 1.18 hits.We asked Yoshida whether housing would be implemented and this is what he said:
Housing is definitely one thing that I would like to do. Currently we are only in the planning phase and there is nothing concrete that I can show you all just yet, however, if you have any ideas of what you think would be cool we would like to hear them for our planning.
What ideas would you like to see implemented with housing? I personally would like a handsome Elezen butler…After checking with the development team about whether it would be possible to implement a setting where you could turn target lock ON, but have camera lock OFF in the configuration, they said that they'll be addressing this along with the camera-related revamps, however, it will be in a patch after 1.18.Hey gang,
What our German counterpart, Sasunaich, said is correct. The development team discussed it and opted not to include a queue system for the instanced raids at this time. The system will allow groups to enter on a first come, first serve-type system. However, nothing was mentioned about how many parties can take part in the instance at the same time.
I've sent a request for further clarification on how many parties can inhabit the dungeon at the same time and will report back when I have further details to share. Sorry for the delay!
Chocobos in 1.19!? About motherfucking time.
The possibility of breeding and selling Chocobo mounts? I'm intrigued... and plan on running a Chocobo mill.
Yes, September...
