Mostly because there isn't a point in anything major until they revamp the current systems. But God knows when that is since Yoshida won't break the silence.
At this point he's gotta pull out a unicorn out of his ass or something to make it up to people who stuck with the game.
Agreed, at this point listening to the "purists" and other people bitch is more entertaining than the game is.
I <3 purists. Always have.
Yep, they're about as good as people that call you a troll for disagreeing with them.
I'm starting to become a doubter as I watch more and more people quit. I'd be surprised if the active population on my server is above 300 now. As a result nothing is selling in the wards, the prices of everything is crashing as everyone undercuts everyone to get their sale and the remains of my old linkshell are complaining how they have no active LS, no one to party with and think it's a solo game. We've not heard anything worthwhile from a developer since the end of February and while the disasters in Japan did cause delays you can't just blame that at this point.
I'm not expecting a new battle system to bring many people back. The game needs good content for that to happen. A workable combat and class system should be expected and there from the start. That's only going to bring the game up to a launch standard. Yoshi mentions a dungeon on the way, but I'm not going to be impressed if it's just one small dungeon designed for 8 people that will clear it rather quickly. It's a start but we need a lot of content.
After the disaster in Japan and server being down bunch of people decided to just stay off till something worthwhile gets added. This is a dangerous game for SE though because they may find something else to play during their off time.
The problem is, with all these others taking time out the game has become even less fun for everyone else still playing. That's going to result in even more quitting. At this point I don't think I'd be against SE taking the servers offline for 3-4 months until the game is worth playing and having a re-launch. In the mean time open a test server where you can copy your character over and play in a proper test environment with no progress on that server counting.
i really can't see them not merging servers after some of the bigger updates.
btw it might just be me, but it's mindboggling to me think that people are still playing the game pre-the major changes
I need to agree with Seph also, I'm starting to get burnt out on this due to the lack of info. Reading Yoshida's letters always kept me going since I knew good things were coming, but the time frame between his last letter plotting details and now is too big of a gap.
It's bunch of "we're working on it", "we're going to ask the dev team," "info coming soon" etc but nothing of substance. Like Seph said, shut down servers till you're done.
Why must SE shut down the servers to stop you from playing?
That's entirely your decision. You can check back on the progress of the game by reading the patch notes, the letters and the overall community reaction. You can just forget about the game and check back once S-E starts their final push to PS3 release. You can just go play another game instead. You have absolutely no obligations, and S-E has no obligations to "make it up" to you. You aren't helping them aside from maybe having a slightly more "informed" opinion about the game. Everything that needs to be said has been already said, and checking out the patch changes is all that can be done.
In the end, one of those three is better than getting more and more cynical with a game no one else is playing.
While they are at it, they should refund everyone who bought the CE.
Yoshida's silence is most likely to limit the amount of work the different translators have to go through, at least that's what he said in one of his letters.
Don't forget these translators were forced to flee from Japan a few weeks ago.
They're probably working on additional quests and other things.
They didn't really decide to delay the patches because they wanted to lol, they actually had no choice this time.
I think that Rukkirii fellow is a new rep they hired. I also think that the reps are independent from the translators, for some part at least. They handle both XI and XIV forums, and most likely only producer's letters and the other official stuff are translated in the Tokyo branch. The representatives on the other hand operate in EU and NA, and take care of gathering feedback and translating as well as posting the not so formal comments for both games.
I'm pretty sure the translators workload is not the culprit. The management team is just too busy.
am i doing something wrong? to this day I'm still not able to register/log on to the forums..
i key in my Square Enix member details and get 'Temporary Session is invalid. Please try again.' on XIV forums, on the XI forums, i get that in Japanese.
btw great post. very well explained. the only way u coulda done it better woulda been to extract all those videos and compiled it into 1 with arrows pointing out what went wrong where. wholeheartedly agree with what u suggested..
I'd never seen FFXIV's ancient magic before.. didn't know they were like time bomb nukes. It'd make sense for the initial spell to not be flashy, but afternuke was just disappointing. totally doesnt feel damaing at all, altho it seems like it is, based on the dmg numbers. I've also noticed that XIV effects all seem to have rather short durations.. but i think the problems are with the nukes more than anything
I've been watching several videos of ppl playing XIV and I must say the buffs are actually really nice. I like Defender and Obsess. Sentinel and Deflection is ok.. i guess. Can't stand how the animation just skips when you make a new action tho. considering how short the animations already are, its a huge aesthetic problem.
They said patches were going to be delayed about two weeks due to the disaster, so I guess let's see if we get something at the end of next week.
Why I still play? I just do DoH and DoL for now. Those systems mostly work fine, it's just getting impossible to sell anything. I want to rank up THM but I'm waiting until the battle changes. I know people who are pushing battle classes up to 50 like crazy, they're going to have nothing to play by the time the battle changes are made. It makes no sense.
