Ya know. I think this is just another testament to how crappy the game is. We're struggling to even reference it, much less discuss it, in a thread dedicated to it.
That's when its time to take a step back, wait for more updates before you play again and go play FFXI.
Especially with the coming leve changes, take a months break, come back to 99 available leves.

Everytime I see SE mention balance I just burst out laughing because its just so comical at this point across both of their flagship mmo's. I think its even more funny that they want to add PVP to 14, thats going to be a fucking disaster. Can't wait till 1-3 classes steam roll everyone or people whine about MRD cleaving everyone down with skullsunder spam.
Tell me, how is the balance completely broken in any zone outside of Darkhold?
There is only one endgame dungeon implemented, and in that particular dungeon, the end boss is not melee-friendly! But oh no, every class has to be useful in every dungeon, because otherwise that is bad balance! And of course, none of the other endgame stuff counts because... well, I already have that stuff! So now, in this extended beta test, we are officially in the phase of "classes that are good for the latest content release are the only classes that count, even though it's all R50".
Do you still fail to see how wanting more dissimilar classes with unique traits is directly at odds with letting-everyone-do-everything? Do you honestly believe that events that favor one class over another should not exist?
Oh, and to answer your question: outside of NM soloing, pre-1.18's balance was better than XI's has been at any point in it's lifetime. How could it not be? Everyone could do everything, which was apparently the problem that needed to be fixed. Even right now, the balance for a new LS (i.e. someone that is doing all of the available endgame content, instead of spamming ONLY the latest one) is perfectly fine.
There is a difference between "one job can deal more damage than another" and "the game's balance is broken." If you are waiting for some mystical fairytale land where all DDs deal exactly equal damage, save yourself the trouble and uninstall today.
Let me rephrase this for you: excluding Batraal, which events are made significantly more difficult to complete by using certain DDs over others? If you define balance as "the min-maxers ignore which DDs parse out the best and bring whatever," you've got a long, disappointing life ahead of you in the MMO world, particularly in a game where you can change classes at will (<--- this is important).
Batraal is the only endgame event, so you can't compare anything else to it.
The point is that the gap is huge.
Doing leves/sp grind (the only other shit to do in the game) is indeed made more difficult and time consuming by using certain DDs over others.
You're so fucking stupid it hurts.
Well, and the part where you can swap to the most efficient class for each specific thing you do during an event when you're not engaged, further pushing "bring the class, not the player."
Batraal is the "only" endgame event because you're already done with the others. Are you really so dense as to literally be saying that SE should rebalance classes on an dungeon-by-dungeon basis? Or should they simply make every dungeon so generic and milquetoast that no class can have an advantage? Your argument is summed up as, "ARC is really good against the enemy we are fighting this month, therefore the game's balance is broken."
As for your other claim, is it really your position that leves and SP grind are made difficult by your DD choice? As in, there are leves that you will fail with one DD but pass with another? Please elaborate, preferably without embarrassing yourself. Your statement that some stuff is more "time-consuming" based on your DDs is both literally true and functionally meaningless; unless all DDs are exactly equal, EVERYTHING will be more "time-consuming" when you are not killing it in precisely the same time frame.

I understand Dan's points because it makes sense, albeit not precisely logical sense, in an environment where you can change classes at almost any time.
See, other games are forced to balanced their encounters for every class because you are stuck with your choice of class from the onset. That alone makes the balance time more focused for the developers and reduces the amount of variables in the equation (which was mentioned earlier and is 100% true). If a certain class is gimp compared to others, the players have a strong argument for complaining because they can't just decide to be a cleric because they're fed up with the latest class adjustments on their rogue.
SE essentially gives you the backhand by laying out a class system where you can be anything at any time and they adjust classes to be flavor of the month. If your class suddenly sucks, they're not under any pressure whatsoever to fix it. The DPS discrepency between ARC and every other melee is admittedly retarded. The gap is huge and if this was a WoW-esque game, the official forums would be lit up like a christmas tree in rockefeller center with players bitching until they patched the shit out of the game again. Unfortunately this also empowers the players to say just what SE has "intended" in their game design. If your job sucks... TOO BAD, play another class. Is that fair? Fuck no! But you're still playing whatever you want to play and ignoring the bandwagon. Good for you, Mr./Mrs. Delicate Snowflake, you will not be picked for a speedrun because you "really like being a Lancer". The truth hurts sometimes irl, but pretty much all the time in Final Fantasy XIV.
Get use to it, I guess?
Terrible, terrible logic.
I understand what Dan is saying better than he does, as do you.
That doesn't justify it. That's the point<<<
