Why do people think items will be cheaper on brand new servers?
There's going to be no supply of materials or crafters and the people that manage to get there first are going to charge ridiculous prices because there's no one to compete with.
Case-in-point with 1.19 even though we have plenty of crafters and materials the price of items has gone up simply because there aren't enough people churning out new recipes to meet demand, letting people charge much, much more than an item is worth.
Just because the gil number values might be less on a new server doesn't mean things are cheaper.
That's why a good majority of people are currently playing everyday, they wanna be ahead of any possible new players that might come when the game is better. I do hope they start new servers, I don't think I'd go to a new server since I already have something done but I can see how that would frustrate new people.
I don't even understand the thinking "they better open new servers up @ ps3 release" when people who know how to grind crafts to 50, know what to farm have broken down that shit down to a science where it will be piss-easy for them to corner a new market on any given new server that might pop up.
I know a guy in my LS with all craft classes to 50 and said he hopes they open new servers just so he can go own the markets. I am sure there are others who have broken it down and are going to do the same thing. It is laughable to think new servers are going to be all sugar and rainbows and lolipops etc.
I still find it amazing that in this forum you have a significantly-more-than-zero number of people who are insisting that SE simply can't put new players on the same server with rich players that already have maxed crafting.
You guys must have really fond memories of the pre-PC JP PS2 FFXI, because (other than this game) that's the last time SE released an MMO that didn't have a new playerbase entering a market that was already full of robber barons.
They'll do it! I SEEN 'EM!
Roadmap!

EDIT:
LOL NO PS3 UNTIL DECEMBER 2012
Most cruel/smart thing they can do is to release fresh new servers for 2.0 / PS3 release, *without* allowing old characters to transfer there.
This will give players the choice to either value their current LS/friends and stick with the old, or have a fresh start together with incoming players.
Old players will still benefit for being able to experience the Umbral Era Cataclysm.
Huh? It's not about morality. It's about saying "Yeah, even though I'm using this to my advantage, it really probably shouldn't be like this." Which, ostensibly, many people here couldn't fathom. I think we've all blown stop signs or something to that effect, while realizing it's probably for the best that everyone doesn't do it all the time. No morality involved.
That's exactly why I'm thinking new servers. No new players want old players with 1 trillion gil from the broken economy to come to their server.
Those with nice, enjoyable shells could keep going with their ingame life. Obviously, an old player moving on a new world would start from lv1.
Unless they allow server transfer months later, like someone else suggested.
Thats the reward us older players bestow upon ourselves for playing through this last year.
If SE forced us to start on new characters, after we stuck with the game during it's most challenging time, then, uh, lol
Would be the end of FFXIV for me.
Does that negate the fact that I spent $74.99 on it, the day of release?
Does it negate the fact that I, along with countless others have invested alot of time to have multiple 50's, etc. etc.?
No.
I expect my character to remain upon anything new coming about. I'm sure I would stand among many who would be pretty "shitty" if characters were to simply be wiped.
You played/play the game for free for ... how many months? 14-15? No matter what you might think about the game you still played it, therefore you enjoyed it on some level (because you don't hit your head against walls voluntarily. I hope), and I think 15 months of free playtime is a proper apology for the initial letdown.
But hey, maybe 18 months would have been acceptable? 23 perhaps?
