Ah, why must you hurt my feelings so. What have I ever done to you to deserve this?
It's not like we haven't dirtfarmed tonnes of gil too. The amount of hours I've spent crafting and gathering is ridiculous. Anyone can do that, even a new player. Since 1.19 the economu is far more balanced than it was previously. I've probably spent more gil since that patch than the rest of the time before it. I'm not talking big ticket items here, I'm talking the little things like gear to convert into materia, cloth materials, ores (I can't seem to mine it quickly enough) etc.
Dirtfarming won't go away on a new server, items will just be worth less, you'll farm less gil per hour and you'll be playing with smaller numbers. The relative wealth will be the same after a couple of month.
Anyway it looks like you'll be getting fresh servers with temporary restrictions, which probably means I or other current players couldn't immediately transfer to it. Even language specific servers. SE seems to be giving people everything they've asked for and more with this 2.0 thing.

At some point I just stopped caring about making gobs of money, its not like there was anything to spend it on.. I'm a penny-pincher with 10 mil. The most expensive items on my server are about 2mil gil, which in contrast with FFXI isn't that terrible. Unlike round 1 launch there will be an army of crafters that can make lowbie stuff, where things were greatly inflated because it was hard to get the materials at the begining of the game. It doesn't matter how much gil high level players have for people starting from the begining, because they won't buy the same things. The (hopeful) influx of new players at round II will increase the availablity of low-level items, not screw people on cost.
So the tradeoff for playing in an economy free of the influence of trillions of launch gil is giving up the ability to play on a character that went through the missable, major plot point world event. Also it's only temporary. Way to find a solution that pleases no one.
Yo guys, drop this dumb ass argument already.
- Regional servers are coming. Brand new ones for new players.
- There will not be a wipe of character data (gil included).
SHUT THE FUCK UP.
hmm, i think the characters themselves might be wiped actually, just all items, levels, cleared quests, achievements, gil, etc. will be stored. We'll just have to make a new character with all the shit on them when they get in-game.
One of the statements was that avatars would be preserved, I'm not sure how to take that but at this time I was thinking it meant that you kept your character's appearance as well, which means the characters wouldn't be wiped.
Edit: Hmm, though, I also read this in the downloadable PDF stuff:
The new graphics engine will cause certain objects to display differently than they do in the current version.
Because of this, we will allow all current players the opportunity to re-customize the race, gender, and
appearance of their characters upon the implementation of the new engine.
Hmm, I recall reading it as you may, not have to, change it. Either way, it's pretty irrelevant, you can just make the same character if you don't want to change it. The only thing I find odd is that they will allow re-creation as something like a female Roegadyn or male Mi'qote, but you probably won't be able to change your name. Miya doesn't quite sound like a guy name.
Is there a reason why they couldn't allow name change at the same time?
