Well, not all have their necessary ports open by default... I didn't. That slows down the patcher considerably, and it may be quite a hassle to open them sometimes. You can also get around that with the torrent files provided, but that is again something you shouldn't need to resort to.
They could also offer the largest updates to be downloaded directly from other sites, or through PSN maybe?
I know right? I don't want to be disappointed like that again, lol.lol the crab picture, good times indeed
Wonder if this "Ishgard-content" is related to the raid/endgame instance they keep on talking about at all? Or is the first endgame event supposed to debut along the battle rehaul?
Would enjoy an outdoor instance against the (currently nonexistant) wyrms and dragons that are (supposedly) ravaging Coerthas.
Yeah, the first event comes along the battle rehaul, not after it. I suppose, with the way the game is hyping the content for the coming months, that the first events are strongly related to Garleans. I think they also mentioned that the dungeon raid is a part of the company system, which is established to stop the invasion.
It's certainly an odd direction to take the game, but I suppose we'll get our primal/beastmen and Ishgard-related action at some point as well.
Hope we get chocobos along side of Ishgard also, dont want to have to run on foot through Coerthas
At least the Chocobo-drawn carriages should be put into use. Was there one in Coerthas? I forget. There should be anyways, I'm pretty sure that's where they are supposed to be from.
Sounds like possibly a quick/expensive way to move between the three/four cities.
Nothing short of having a summonable chocobo wherever I am in the outside world excluding mines/caves and what-not after doing a quest at x-rank is going to be fail imo.
This is a modern MMO, traveling shouldn't be this big of an issue. When I think of adventuring in this big new world they have created I can't help but think of a hero riding their chocobo steed that is going from x-place to y-place saving the day. There should be no gimmicks, it should be a mount you have to obtain through a series of quests and should be a fairly low rank requirement to access it.
It should be everything chocobo-raising should have been in XI but instead of taking 21 days to have it hatch, the process should be fairly short, you should be able to determine the type of color you want and the mount should be useable everywhere outside in the game world. I really hope SE leaves the stupid gimmicks at home this time.
Summoning time : 10sec
Bonus speed: +25%
Watch that.
[edit]
And I agree Lordender. A breeding quest is fine, but it should be for bonus on top of an already useful chocobo (not something that start at walking speed like it did in FFXI).
Choco should be latest at lvl 20
I have a feeling chocobo carriages are just going to be FFXIV's version of FFXI's outpost teleports. For ex: talk to npc, choose from a list of destinations, pay fee, instantly arrive at destination.
There is no way that they'll be able to create logical pathing with the curent terrain and region zone-lines. Maybe for the road from Thanalan Docks to Ul'dah, and from Ul'dah to the Black Shroud, and from the Black Shroud to Gridania and back. Even those roads aren't perfectly clear or obstacle free (rivers in Gridania, rubble and hills in the path past Camp Horizon).
I don't see how the chocobo carriages could be used.
Anima, airships and personal chocobos should already cover most uses for such feature.
Agreed choco carriages arn't needed with tele, airship, personal bird. Best uses I could see out of them be entrances to certain instances and escort style quest/leves where you have to protect it from mobs from point A to point B.
In hindsight, I could see them being used to travel to certain locations- ex. Thanalan docks, and the hamlets.
With airships they could also make the carriages insanely expensive (but instant). I guess there are few possibilities, and I like Nama's ideas also.
Maybe multi-person mounts/vehicles that cost obscene amounts of gil? (10+mill). God knows this game needs gilsinks.
chocobo carriges will be a cowboys/indians type of mini game where you defend it's content from robbers, optimal setup will be 5 archers and a conjurer
Eh... That didn't go all so well last time they tried that.

Mailboxes coming in the future it seems:
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...9577#post99577We spoke with Yoshida about implementing a mailbox/delivery system for you guys. He wanted to assure you that of course this is being looked into, but it will take time to implement because it is difficult to execute without improving the server-related issues first.
