An item is just as likely to drop the 1st time you kill something as the 200th, playing roulette with low drop rates and ability to attend is and always will be unfair to the player.
There is no logic in logic.

    Life is always unfair.

Once you realize these 2 simple things, everything becomes much easier.

Hmm, I like the idea of tokens. I am not 22 at my parents house anymore. I think if a LS has scheduled runs yet a few folks aren't able to attend (i.e. had to work late to better the fucking real world, or decided to hang out with friends possibly meeting new people and friend, or just want to spend some time with their family/signifigant other) should never be "punished" for missing a run or two. If a player is dedicated to their LS (which is what most LS's want) they shouldn't be bidding against other members for a 5% drop item. It's just stupid.

If a token/key item system existed, hell let's go back to 11 for a bit. and change around the old HNM scene.

I show up to fafnir, let's say fafnir drops yada yada at a 5% drop rate but each time you kill it, you get a ra/ex item "fafnir scale"
you can then turn those items in for replicas of those same items that he drops, but with different names (i.e. leaping/bounding boots)
ADDITIONALLY, if said person isn't that concernd with said items, he can save up fafnir scales that could be exchanged for other types of currency in some other event, like behemoth, because person wants an item from behemoth.

Now you remove the 21-24 spawn window and make fafnir an instanced with the exact same concept.

"but shep, this punishes the people who can show up all the time"

To that I say, exchange your fafnir scales for ancient currency, or alexandrite, or something that it takes a whole fuck ton of to make an item (empy items, relic currency, alexandrite)
Now the folks that show up 24/7 are working towards a relic AND the folks that can only attend 3-4 times a week are still getting great drops, OR taking the long road to a super rare item.

I mean, DKP while it was great when you have young folks who are always around because their lives consist of Highschool>homework>MMO>sleep> repeat, it doesn't work so well when your life is school>work>friends>mmo>sleep repeat.
If your life doesn't consist of school, work or friends I can honestly say you are a leech on society and have no bussiness playing video games this f'ing much.

^ I agree with the above, 5 years ago it was ok in FFXI, but now I just can't play the way I used to. One of the reasons I am very excited about GW2 loot system.

I always liked the idea of whoever puts more time in, has a better chance of getting stuff.

I mean, that is how the world works.

Thus I can understand why people don't like it. Logical?

We play video games because there aren't really spells and super sweet weaponskills and giant monsters that we can team up to kill in real life. Similarly, we play video games because the games can (but doesn't always) deliver a certain amount of fairness RL doesn't.

Unless you're talking about brogamers playing CoD or Football manager or something like that.

sorry but what world do you live in? Lol seriously? When one grows up and leaves school one learns that ideal is a fairy tale and only goes so far.

Yeah... I was gonna say. You have a better chance of getting stuff if you get lucky. That's how video games and real life work... also whoring yourself out for nudes/cyber/etc. is universally effective.

I think most people prefer the idea that whoever puts in more time and effort will get stuff sooner, not might.

MMOs aren't the grand socio-ethno-geographical dice roll that is life, if a fair system of advancement is possible with a few lines of code it would foster a much more enjoyable gameplay experience.

People get screwed enough in real life by factors beyond their control, I don't think they appreciate it in their leisure activities as well.

    edit: what->that, i tipe gud

Is it just me or are they failing to build any type of hype before the next update?

Unfortunately the same world as you, albeit maybe a nicer spot in North America.

All jests aside, I understand that some people want things to be easier to obtain due to the fact that it is a video game. All this change has only fucked this game worse.

DKP system works well, always has.

If you work more, you get paid more.

If you play more, you get more drops.

    Why complicate a simple system?

Because the people who can't play that much want everything. They don't care that they don't put as much time into it as someone else is able to, they just want what they want! They also don't want that other person who is able to play more, to be able to get more than they can.

And this whole argument forgets the whole billions of runs with nothing to show for it that mioko's got going on.
Considering that alone... I'm with Niiro.

That's the main thing I'm looking for in an MMO now. My schedule is all over the place so I just want to log on and make some progress not be put at the end of the line because I was gone for 2 weeks.
