We're back to DKP systems?
See what people are missing is that the more evolved DKP system don't solely represent a pecking order for gear distribution. It's just a way to take the (inevitably corrupt) decision-making process out of the hands of players so there is no question who gets what. Yeah, if you attend more, you can get more, but not every system is precisely that straightfoward. EP/GP systems aren't, nor are ZeroSum systems.
"DKP System" is this umbrella term where everyone thinks you show up and get a point, you buy loot you lose a point, but that's false. That's old-school SimpleDKP and it is inherently flawed in most modern MMO gaming systems. It's long-since been abandoned by any guild where the leaders are trying to promote fairness. It also cannot control RNG that games throw at you like a system designed for tokens can.
Token systems are essentially built-in SimpleDKP systems, which becomes an "effort = loot" breakdown. Lotsa people like 'em. However they also have their own mechanics, like "difficulty" scaling. For example, the first boss in a raid might give you one token, but the eighth one might give you eight. Thus progress is encouraged and the hardcores/skilled players can buy gear "faster" than those who simply linger at the beginning of an instance. You buy gear from a vendor and everyone can get what they want "eventually". The problem is that not all content is gonna be token-system all the time so RNG will always exist somewhere.
I don't think anyone is really confused about it except ffffffff who appears to be about as coherent as his name.
You can go play WoW at any time.
Moving on from Ziiro. It seems to mind-boggling why people argue against a "this person is there more, thus he gets more" system. Just because you work at a Gas Station 7-5 and can't be at camp shouldn't give you a handicap because the IT manager who makes his own schedule can play whenever. Suck it up
Bring your flames, DKP has and will continue to work despite the new crowd. Again, WoW is here for you.
EQ is still there for you too.
I have no comeback, no insult, no witticism or random image with which to respond.
I respectfully yield the monkey bars and twirly slide, and forsake any retribution.
I'm sorry but if I go to play an online video game, and I know the chances of me ever getting the top gear is next to nothing because others will always have more play time than me, lol, I'm just not going to play.
And for the wow argument, that might explain why they have over 6million subscribers. Last I checked, most companies that our out to turn a profit (I.e. all video game companies) would rather upset the 5k-10k eletists, than 4million other folks who can't base their life around a video game but are still willing to subscribe for months because there game play isn't crippled when they only get to play for 10 hours a week.
In the past I might have stuck around for LS scraps, but not now, and I think alot of folks probably feel the same way.
I'm not sure how someone else having more points than you in a game-integrated token system matters. It doesn't matter if someone else in my LS has 200,000 Einherjar ampoules... I can still buy Morgana's Choker when I get to 15k.
I'm a fan of in-game token systems. Sure, the rare drop that appears 1% of the time is cool and all, but I don't have time between work, school, gf, fishing, other crap to camp stuff every day all day anymore. Even if the game is instance oriented I'd like there to be some kind of token that drops every time you complete the instance that you can use to purchase what ever item drops in that instance.
So say there's a fafnir instance that you can do every 3 days. Let's pretend it's 2005 and zomg ridill. Even if the drop rate is 1-3%, if you're awarded a token every time you complete the run and say you need 75 tokens to purchase a ridill, if you ran the instance 75 times(wins) you could at least buy that item if you saved all your tokens. Sure it would take you almost a year running basically twice a week every week but at least that option is there and prevents people from going years without getting drops that they want so bad.
Duno if this game is going the same direction where one piece of gear will last yearrrrrsssss as one of the best pieces of gear to have, or if they'll totally go the WoW route and add new level caps(I think I read Yoshi plans to increase level cap steadily over time) with new gear once a year or whatever. Either way you can modify the token route for more or less runs depending on lockout timers and level cap increases.
DKP system is too much like a job to me. I have one already. Two if you count the gf. No need for another. I play for fun and progression, not so Timmy who's unemployed and doesn't go to school and plays 18 hours a day can be top of the list for all rare drops for the next forever.
Why bother? Anyone who actually cares about this game right now are following it and anyone who doesn't will only start to when that proof shows up in that damn pudding (i.e. after 1.20 or 2.0). If this game were brand new or hadn't suffered a solid year of shame, it might be different. It ain't.

Seems like all the stuff in the last letter, just used again to spam forum >.<
I am beginning to think only the most delusional fan-girls/boys are going to be paying for this when it goes P2P, the patch just looks so underwhelming on the content side while providing some good gameplay adjustments but its nothing thats going to keep you busy until February +.
