The list on daevaofwar is probably a loose translation without looking at reform list.

Hope so. After all the Raise trait mentions "enfeebling effect" and not weakness so it's possible that they confused the two regarding Esuna.

I think it's safe to assume esuna is as esuna has always been. Unfortunately, something caught my eye while trying to double-check that...

I hope they didn't nix the "recast is zero" part of chainspell... Maybe they just never mention that effect of it /shrug

WHM Raise raises without Weakness as long as the they're high enough to have the trait.

If they add more spells, I wonder how this will further down the road since we're stuck with 30 abilities? Hopefully by the time 2.0 hits they take a page from GW where you will have plenty of actions, but can only set 10 of them.

It's entirely possible that it always prevents weakness, but their notes are unclear. Don't get your hopes up too much.

Edit: Unless this was officially confirmed one way or the other somewhere that I'm unaware of...

Perhaps PVP battles work liked like that in XI, but that was because of many, many terrible concepts that just did not work for interesting PVP. Now he's talking about them in XIV as if the game will once again only be a prettier version of XI. It shows that, despite his supposed "pedigree" in playing other MMOs, he's learned nothing from them in terms of PVP.

His words tell a lot, especially as we haven't really seen or heard much of anything about PVP in this game. Its a pretty scary thought for someone like me, who enjoyed ballista for what it was, but certainly knows that it can't even be mentioned in the same sentence as other game's PVP.

SE shouldn't be worrying about plot or anything else when it comes to PVP until they figure out just what exactly PVP means, and what people expect from it.
I know where you are coming from, I play PvP in many MMO's but I think you are skipping over a couple points he made in the actual post.

    1) He said the current transformation of combat is to simply get the game ready at a minimum standard for PvP. The whole post was about reasons to get rid of cancel on movement and possible scenarios on why it needed to happen for balance purposes (not just PvP). He later goes on to say that once the foundation is in place then he will nuance the system to add more real time combat applications. For now they are changing it to something closer to a turn based system and will expand from there. If I am remembering correctly he is a huge DAoC fan and has played games like Rift (at least said from interviews). He is also a self-proclaimed huge PvP guy so I say wait and see where he intends to go with PvP, right now his job getting the game actually playable over the long haul in as short of time as possible.

    2) We don't know the direction ultimately he wants to take with PvP other then his stance on magic cancel while moving, he only mentioned hypothetical scenarios within OUR current knowledge of the system. He already mentioned other abilities and spells are coming for 2.0, and in the past he even specifically mentioned spells and abilities designed specifically for PvP utility.

Furthermore to address your previous post. Most if not all your complaints in regards to the actual combat system seem to be an issue around the actual engine itself and not the system, of which we already know its getting a complete overhaul in 2.0. Your complaints have foundation, but they are premature when we are still almost a year away from seeing anything new to challenge/reaffirm our stances.

In-game description says otherwise: "Causes Raise to no longer inflict enfeebling effects".

And I don't really see how this makes Esuna better if that description is true. Once you hit 48 you won't be needing that spell anymore unless you have someone else Raise people and if you're using jobs you won't have that luxury. White Mage will be the only job able to Raise in those situations and having a spell that won't really have an effect would be a complete waste. Not to mention that there's no way to heal status ailments right now... maybe only with items but that's not a really good way to deal with them.

Did you miss the part where if you have a WHM around (you know, the only way to actually get Esuna) everyone will be using jobs? Remember the part about cross-class abilities being locked out when using jobs? Yeah....
Unless they've changed their mind on them (and it is a possibility) only WHMs will be able to Raise in job situations. In that case a spell that cures weakness wouldn't be useful at all. Unless you're planning to ask your Thaumaturge and melees to gladly not use their jobs to enhance their roles to have Raises around.... and let's remember that job bonuses won't be limited to simply extra spells or abilities.
Actually there's something I have yet to try even if it most likely won't work... has anyone tried Sacred Prism with Raise yet?
I'm assuming Raise is the exception like it is for Accession in FFXI but you never know.

I'm fearful that Monk is going to get niche'd into a "this class is only good for soloing/holding a single, not-all-that-strong add with minimal support" during an event. (Sap screams this) Maybe until they make a NM or two that doesn't constantly blast anyone standing in less-than-a-spear's-length radius so they actually have opportunity to do some Howling Fists and impressive DoT (with elemental fists and now kicks + hundred fists). For reference, Fists of Earth was 18~20 dmg per fist on Ifrit with Cobalt Claws.

Sad, but that's probably the truth. The AoE bullshit is one of the biggest reasons melee get shafted in these fights.

Time will tell, as it always does. Until I see some proof, however, my concerns will remain.

Pvp is going to be so laughable on this game. What gives anyone any reason that they will be able to balance PVP that almost no MMO company has been able to do while having better gameplay, more exciting classes and mechanic's. I mean shit, they still can't even balance PVE properly in both of their "flagship" MMO's.

Image of Casters for Solo Play
To put it simply, it follows the below flow:

    1. Attack enemy from max range with the most damaging spell
    2. Monster aggros and begins to move to attack
    3. Cast sleep and put monster to sleep (OK to slow their movement speed by adding a heavy effect)
    4. Move to the max range while the enemy is asleep or weighed down
    5. Once you have established distance, turn and fire off an attack spell combo to deal a maximum amount of damage
    6. Once damage has been dealt, sleep will wear off and the enemy will begin to move again (however, their HP is halved)
    7. Cast attack spells for combos and lower the enemy’s HP
    8. Finally, use a spell that recovers MP and defeat the enemy
This right here proves to me that this dude actually plays MMOs. lol

What worry me about movement interrupt is that the game is still laggy as shit. I don't want another FFXI where you have to "guess" when you can move.

I hate this line, I really do, but: isn't that something they're meaning to address with the server rehaul come 2.0?

Yeah thats something that will be addressed then. But Kaylia has a right to that statement since this change (spell cancelling) is coming before then. We will have to deal with the lag and get used to it until 2.0 is ready. I really hope they can nail that WoW-like fluidity.

My philosophy for game design, not only for FFXIV, but for all games in general, is that doing everything innovatively, originally or with a novel approach does not always work.
^ dude is the fucking man. Been saying that since day 1.
